£5 for under 200grams!?!?
I can think of class A drugs that are cheaper? (I don’t take them but still)
Is it made of pounded truffles grown in remote volcanos?
Aibu?

Beef jerky isn't cheap either. Dh loves it but I rarely buy him it because of the price.
Asda have 70g packs, vegan £2, beef £2.50

Madness. Vegan jerky is wrong. Beef jerky is wrong. Only biltong is right.

NB cutting, marinating and drying is not intensive processing. Not is cutting, marinating and cooking.

I think there must be a core demographic of beef jerky addicts who will pay anything to get their fix. Or biltong. I have tried it a couple of times to see what the attraction is but no wiser yet.

If it's the kings one you're talking about they've never called it "vegan beef jerky" for anyone wanting to be pedantic about that not being a real thing it's "veggie jerky" and you're right the price since the main supermarkets it's extortionate, Aldi used to get it in a specialbuy a few times a year for 99p.

Whatwhywhenwhere · 29/01/2022 19:44

I might have to nip to Aldi and see what the fuss is about Grin

And it tastes dreadful!

I did buy some once to try but it never occurred to me that they'd put liquorice in it. I have no words for how much I hate liquorice.

Why do vegans insist on giving meat-based names to products which are not meat-based.

There is no such thing as vegan beef jerky. It’s simply vegan jerky.

Just as there’s no such thing as a vegan butcher it’s a greengrocer.

The same applies to broccoli steak, vegan fish and chips. You wouldn’t refer to a meat product in vegan terms so why the other way around?

I think it’s homage to the fact that a lot of vegans live the taste of meat and want to recreate it.
