To think the PM is shamelessly using the Ukraine crisis for his own benefit

He's planning on a trip there next week, which is very convenient because it coincides with the Sue Gray report- or at least the tiny bit of it they'll put out. It wouldn't surprise me if he went there instead of doing PMQs. Maybe I'm being overly suspicious though.

YABU - He cares about Ukraine and is right to visit
YANBU - His main thoughts are with himself.

I don't know why he's going there but I'd be pretty disturbed and pissed off if a PM wasn't concerned about the Ukraine situation and didn't speak out about it

He's already spoken about it and of course should act and continue to deal with it. Turning up in person just feels like a PR stunt. He always looks a ridiculous shambles anyway and says the wrong thing, so I doubt he's going to help in any way. He's no statesman.

YANBU

He's all about what works for him always has been always will be

He’s desperately hoping that this will do for him what the Falklands war did for Thatcher. She was failing badly in the polls until then, and it bounced her back to another 2(?) election victories. Wars generally help PMs so Johnson will use it as much as he can.

Yep

how people are still surprised when he does what he has always done is beyond me.

Bewilders me too

We have British troops in the Ukraine. Its not completely surprising that he is going there.

We have British troops all over the world inc other areas mid war or on verge of war - he's in no hurry to visit them is he?!

@thegcatsmother you're massively out of date with modern warfare! Nuclear weaponry means sod all now and what we have barely works anyway it's ancient!

Perfect time for a photo opportunity with the troops!

Yep

It’s so blatantly a bid to save his own skin. I hope all the people who voted Tory because “but Corbyn” are hanging their heads in shame now. They’re both cut from the same cloth, both hanging on to leadership by their fingernails when reality should tell them time’s up.

VladmirsPoutine · 29/01/2022 14:13

Of course it's a feeble attempt at distraction. But what I continuously find astonishing is that so many people are realising what he is now and at large the tories and the met police. Some of us are absolutely not shocked even a little bit.

StarCat2020 · 29/01/2022 14:57

Needs to stop brushing his hair with a balloon

Pazuzu · 29/01/2022 15:03

Heyup Vladimir, having a spot of bother here me old mate, do you mind making some noises about invading somewhere to get the rotters off my back? Pip pip.

Whatwhywhenwhere · 29/01/2022 15:32

Boris gets the “big calls right”. You know, global pandemic, lockdown etc
By contrast, partygate is clearly “little”. Yes maybe he messes up on the details but on the big things he’s the go to leader. Such as war. Or so he would have you think.

StoneofDestiny · 29/01/2022 16:00

It's a PR stunt. We've seen him in Police Uniform, now we will see him in a flack jacket on board a tank. He might usefully bring the flack jacket home with him..............

He's an arse by the way

thegcatsmother · 30/01/2022 00:13

Graphista I don't think I'm that out of touch with modern warfare, and fyi, our Trident missiles do work, hence a submarine on deterrent patrol all the time.

DeeCeeCherry · 30/01/2022 00:18

He is self-serving. Putin thinks of him as an absolute joke so he won't be able to do any good there. But, he'll survive as PM as he usually does.

He has his supporters. & no opposition.

AKASammyScrounge · 30/01/2022 00:30

Sometimes events converge. Ukraine is a massive problem for the West and we are up to our necks in it; Partygate is a problem for Boris but he is taking advantage of the convenient difficulties in the Ukraine.
I:d rather LizTruss went.

Poetrypatty · 30/01/2022 08:38

He has his supporters. & no opposition

Labour are consistently ahead in all the polls. He does have supporters though, but some are just keeping him there so they can dump the bad publicity about the cost of living crisis on him. I think a lot in the Tory party must want him gone now.

Graphista · 30/01/2022 12:38

@thegcatsmother I wouldn't depend on trident! Used to work for them looking after it etc and I'm taking my cue from them!

MrsSkylerWhite · 30/01/2022 12:39

Well of course he is. Wouldn’t have expected anything else from our esteemed leader 🙄

sst1234 · 30/01/2022 12:42

You are unreasonable for calling it a crisis. It’s not a crisis, it’s a very patronising attempt by all sides to create a problem to boost defence budgets and for defence lobbies to make a ton of money out of selling their goods and services. After all, Covid took focus away from foreign affairs. And everyone needs the threat of war to stay in line. Follow the money.

TeloMere · 30/01/2022 12:52

As pp said ...sometimes events converge...which is infuriating for those who want Johnson out and are trying to keep party gate in the headlines.

Tavelo · 30/01/2022 13:14

Hopefully the Russians will invade while he's there and his head will end up on the end of a rifle

badspella · 30/01/2022 13:29

Oh come on, the Russians are infamous for sorting out Party problems. He just wants a bit of advice from Vlad, about how to make a few of them 'disappear'.

Poetrypatty · 31/01/2022 13:34

So he's putting out a bit of the Sue Gray report today, saying now we may never actually get the whole thing, and will be in Ukraine by tomorrow Hmm
