Moaning colleague

Help she's driving me crazy!!

She's constantly moaning things aren't been done right, that she is exhausted from working the hours she works (even though she has just increased them). Moans about the manager then is her best friend to her face. Moans because other staff finish earlier than her, tells us all (except the manager) constantly she is applying for jobs because it is so bad here.
She's so draining 😫 Im exhausted from listening to her 😆

Sorry I pressed Yabu by mistake.

YANBU.

Tell her to shut the fuck up

Monday morning, tell her to stop moaning. If you have to ask her a third time, advise her that you will speak to your manager to raise her concerns on her behalf, and do so, no idle threat.

Wish I could, she would run crying to the manager 🤣

I feel your pain op. I once worked with someone similar. Luckily she left. I found finding a commonality helped like small talk helped. So say she likes walking the dog kind of asking if she'd been in any nice walks recently. Immediately after a moan sort of calmed her down.

Mummy1608 · 28/01/2022 19:51

When she starts moaning, just change the subject. She probably sees you as a sympathetic friend

DreamerSeven · 28/01/2022 19:51

Every time she moans, say “you’ve mentioned that a few times recently, perhaps you should speak to HR / Occupational Health / your manager etc about your concerns” then crack on with your work. Cut her off, you don’t have to humour her.

Cottagepieandpeas · 28/01/2022 19:51

I have one exactly the same. It is very draining.

She’s is also quite volatile and does tend to fly off the handle, so I think people tiptoe around her a little bit.

I have also never known anyone suck up to managers so much. It’s revolting. If only they could hear what she says behind their back. 100% sure she says awful things about me too (which I guess is exactly what I am doing).

Is her name Colin Robinson?

Just do that.

You don't have to listen to it so take steps to stop her inflicting it on you.

Think we might be working in the same place Grin
So sick of having to listen to and look after colleauges instead of looking after the people I am employed to do, that I have decided to retire early and go in to the voluntary sector.

I have a moaner in my team and it is completely draining Confused

Even as a line manager I find it draining (I do not say that to them obviously!).

In your position, I would do one of the following:

  1. If your job allows, wear earphones and listen to music or an audio book while you work so that you don't have to listen.
  1. Do as someone above mentioned each time she moans 'you've mentioned that a few times, I'd speak to manager/HR about it so it can be resolved'
  1. Speak to your manager about it and the impact it has on morale. Someone in my team came to me about moaning colleague and I didn't think badly of them- I understood fully! I was able to put a few things in place to at least reduce the moaning she did to colleagues.
