Or teenager like attitude/behaviour?

My son is 10 and was always so well behaved. He was never ever a problem and always such a great boy. Recently I’ve noticed a massive change in him.

He is grumpy, moans a lot and generally has a negative attitude. I wonder if 10 is the age where they start to change?

Does it differ between boys and girls? I have a young girl and she’s been an absolute handful since the day she was born. I’m dreading her teenage years already.

I'd say between 9 and 12 depending on the child.

Age 9-12 yes. Defo by year 6 unless they are very young in the year

It was a slow burn for my 12 year old DD. But she's always been sensible and calm "old head young shoulders" kind of kid.

But 3/4 months ago we noticed her wit and humour suddenly changed, almost over night and bam, she was like a teenager (not the stereotype yet though). Then two weeks ago we had a family day out with all the extended lot, and after they commented on the fact she was definitely teen over child now. She started her that same weekend.....soooo definitely all came together at once.

Still shouts for mummy though when dad is tickling her.....

My youngest, 9, definitely young still.

But I do think Covid restrictions play a massive part in development of younger ones...they lost so much key time, her and her peers are all noticeably a ",younger" 9 than her sister and peers were at that same stage.

Working with children, 9 has always been the most difficult age for me, they really become defiant

RubyJam · 27/01/2022 22:50

Yes 10.5 here and all I’m getting is attitude

My DS is 10yrs old and he has definitely changed a lot recently. He is not afraid to answer back now! He is really finding his independence, and is showing many signs of being ready for secondary school. It’s great for him that he wants to feel grown up, but not so easy for me Sad!

Lol. Dd is 11 today and was positively mortified today at school pick up when I sang a quick burst of "happy birthday to you" in a quietish voice.
Yesterday she would have joined in.

I'd say 10 especially for girls. I used to do Brownies and they'd be lovely until then and the conversations would start becoming a bit gossipy rather than kind. The boys seemed to take a tiny bit longer - 11.5 was when they started to get more sarcastic or a drier sense of humour.

Year 6. I am sure it's coinciding with a lot more complex friendship behaviour where you can be 'in' or 'out' one day to the next. There has been quite a change from appearing fairly content and resilient to a confrontational 'Life's not fair' stance on almost everything, no matter how small.
