To not want my toddler to wear shoes at nursery?

This really bothers me. She gets home at the end of the day and her little feet and socks are all clammy.

As a family we don't wear shoes in the house. At work, when I'm in the office (very small team, casual dress code) I always kick my shoes off under my desk.

I know plenty of people wear shoes all day long but small kids' feet are still soft and growing and don't need to be squished in shoes for most of the day (and she's at nursery full time). I've also seen that badly fitted shoes can hinder children's foot development and it's not really possible to know whether a 2 year old's shoes are perfectly fitting or not.

Is it just me or does this bother others too??

Nursery won't allow her to be in just socks, so I'm looking for options really of any alternative soft/breathable indoor footwear options I can take to nursery for her and leave there. I've had a quick look at those 'barefoot' type shoes but they are of course very expensive.

My DC nursery did not allow shoes in the rooms, had to be left under their peg and would wear socks

Even parents had to take shoes off when coming into the baby room!

In ours baby room was bare feet and then toddlers it’s free flow so shoes generally on all the time. Crocs and other sandals aren’t allowed as the children go to the forest quite often.

I’m not sure any of the suggestions will be any different to the shoes you’re in tbh if the thing that worries you is her clammy feet. Generally fitted toddler shoes will have lots of growing room. I was always strict with mine as 1yo about being bare foot as much as possible so get why you’re questioning it.

I’d also say with the benefit of hindsight- your child is likely to wee on their shoes when potty training at nursery. Mine has spent quite a lot of time inside in her wellies while her shoes are being cleaned/dried.

Mine used to wear these really soft toddler shoes at that age - I used to get them from Ethel Austin. They were like sewn plasticky type fabric with slipper sock grippy bits on the bottom. Bit like those ones posted upthread.

That said I think you're being a bit ridiculous in all honesty. It's literally one of your jobs as a parent to make sure she has shoes that fit her feet.
