To think this is highly inappropriate? (Instagram business)

I came across an instagram business page who sells kids boards to go in the bath.

Now I know their business literally centres around kids bath toys and accessories but their instagram is full of pictures of naked kids playing in the bath - including their own kids too!

AIBU to think it’s highly inappropriate to be sharing such private photos of other peoples children to hundreds and thousands of strangers on the internet?!

Furthermore, what kind of parents would take these kind of photos and send them to a business anyway to be shared on such a public page?!

Children have no safeguarding at all when it comes to online forums and platforms and it’s often their own parents exploring the poor things in the first place!

I can’t even imagine being comfortable as a business to ask or share these kind of photos!

Not sure how it is any different to those TV ads where they wipe the baby's bare arse?

They don't do that any more
Cofifeefee · 27/01/2022 13:57

You can report the posts to Instagram

steppemum · 27/01/2022 14:06

you are right, totally inappropriate.

There are two sides to it. (I haven't seen (nor wish to see) the page you're talking about.)

On the one hand, it's good that the creators are not linking nudity with sexualisation. The fact they're using their own kids suggests they, naively, expect the images to solely be taken in an innocent way. This of course is not the case, most of the photos will be harvested by paedophiles and end up circulating on the internet forever.

On the other hand, I dislike the idea that parents can sign their children's rights away. It's illegal to publish nude images of an adult without their consent if you don't reasonably believe they've consented to it (for example, photos of a person naked on a naturist beach would be fine, because they're in a public place). Why would it be different for under-18s? Surely they should have more protection, not less.

Personally I think the second point outweighs the first, parents should not be able to share pictures of their child in a state of undress. But the crucial thing is that those images will at this moment be sitting on the dark web, being shared by men and women who enjoy abusing kids.

There are so many concerning pages like that on instagram, I reported so many when looking for cloth nappy brands that post children inappropriately. Just like influencers who shove cameras in their kids faces, it's unnecessary and can be entirely avoided.

SeasonFinale · 27/01/2022 14:42

If they are in the bath how can you see that they are naked? Surely you mean from waist up?

Some of the people have taken really close up shots and there’s no bubbles in the bath etc so clearly shows the whole child naked… I have reported a lot of their photos but instagram doesn’t seem to do anything about them…

There's children genitalia in the photos?

Bagelsandbrie · 27/01/2022 15:38

If you can clearly see the child’s genitalia in the photos then screenshot and send to the police with details of the account.

GreenTeaMom · 27/01/2022 15:54

I’m going to go back over the account now and screenshot anything that shows a full child and report it on 101

OP it’s probably a bad idea to save these images to your computer or to save them anywhere really

You can report to Instagram and/or 101 without saving the images. Even if you've saved them for innocent reasons, it is an offence you may land in legal trouble for.
steppemum · 27/01/2022 16:45

yes DO NOT save the images on your phone or computer

GreenTeaMom · 27/01/2022 16:46

Okay noted - thank you!
