Bus woman

RainbowBriteUk · 27/01/2022 08:26

I get on the bus most mornings to work. There are signs on the windows to keep them open. Covid rates in my area are very high.

Each morning this woman gets on further down the line and goes around closing windows. Today she stood over me while she closed mine, except this morning I told her the windows should be kept open for air circulation. She closed it anyway, looked really angry and said she'd rather not have hypothermia. The weather is mild here anyway. This woman also pushes in front in the queue each night. WIU to confront her? I just feel her wants shouldn't trump everyone elses.

Some people can never be told.
We have a social responsibility to call out people who are dicks but because they are dicks they rarely listen 😂

RockallMalinHebrides · 27/01/2022 08:38

I'd just re-open the window.

JSL52 · 27/01/2022 08:45

Just open it again.

JSL52 · 27/01/2022 08:45

I'd tell her not to lean over me as well.

ElftonWednesday · 27/01/2022 08:47

Definitely open the window nearest to you. If I was feeling really petty I'd go round opening all of them again.

Pleaseuniverseplease · 27/01/2022 08:48

I'd open the windows around me again.
If she pushed in front of me I'd remind her there's a queue.

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/01/2022 08:51

Open your window again.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/01/2022 08:53

If she's leaning over you'd, I'd fake a cough. But def reopen them and any nearby ones.

SniffMyFeet · 27/01/2022 08:53

Yes , open it again . She can’t dictate what to do. The bus company have requested it . She’s putting the driver at risk too .
What does everyone in the queue do when she pushes in ? Just stand there ?

RobinPenguins · 27/01/2022 08:56

Open it again. I do this regularly. Apart from the covid thing, it’s really unpleasant sitting on a stuffy bus with your outdoor coat on. No one is getting hypothermia from a bus journey.

SituationCritical · 27/01/2022 08:57

I couldn't be bothered with a confrontation. Wait until the bus starts to move and open the window again so it's more awkward for her to get up and shut it. If she huffs and puffs turn away and ignore. If she gets up and shuts it, wait until she gets back in her seat and open it again. Sit as far away as you can for maximum annoyance.

RealBecca · 27/01/2022 08:58

if you left it shut you didn't really confront her.

RogerDodger · 27/01/2022 09:01

Was it like this?

YANBU OP. Just keep opening it. Don’t engage her in any explanation or justification. Ignore her completely.

Thirtytimesround · 27/01/2022 09:22

Open it again, but be aware that she is clearly mad and looking for a row. You’ll probably have a shouting match and it won’t change her behaviour.

But I would have the row, yes, because I’d rather have the row than be bullied, and unless she looks like she’s carrying a weapon / is over six foot tall I am well up for a row about this stuff.

tulips27 · 27/01/2022 09:28

That is very worrying, it's great to see people getting back to normal but everyone knows that public transportation is one of the worst places going for spreading bugs and illnesses.

RogerDodger · 27/01/2022 09:30

I wouldn’t have the row. I’d just keep opening the windows and let her rant and rave for all to see who was the problem.

Just10moreminutesplease · 27/01/2022 09:34

I once watched a bus window standoff where one person kept opening the window and the other kept closing it.

Eventually the person who wanted it closed won because she stood and held it shut. Not one word was spoken during the whole thing Grin.

RainbowBriteUk · 27/01/2022 09:34

Tomorrow I'm going to sit further away from her usual seat and see if she comes and shuts the window (she will!) and just stay silent but open it and repeat. This bus in particular gets really busy too.

I'd definitely open the window again. If she says 'I'd rather not get hypothermia' then I think the correct response is 'I'd rather not get Covid, so maybe get yourself a warmer coat.'
