My children and their dad are due to travel to Italy on 5th February, today i accidentally reported a positive instead of negative lateral flow on the government website for my 14 year old son. I phoned them on 119 but they said they cannot change the results. Travel rules seem to be you cannot travel within 10 days of a positive lateral flow, so it looks as though he can't go? I am devastated on his behalf. Does anyone know if there is anything I can do?

Should be okay, they need a negative test within 48 hours so as long as they have that and dad is vaccinated, that positive won't flag up anywhere

Thehop · 26/01/2022 22:34

Can you record enough negatives that it bumps the positive out of view?

momls20 · 26/01/2022 22:34

All the airport will want to see is negative test cert :)

freesolo · 26/01/2022 22:42

The government website says about the NHS pass for travel being invalid if you get a positive result within 10 days before travel

I would get him a pcr - pcr would over rule lateral flow. I think he needs to do a pcr before he flies anyway?

freesolo · 27/01/2022 06:09

I have been up most of the night researching and just can't get definite answers. I think I will get one of those paid for PCRs rather than the NHS one as I've read he would need that, not sure why.

Are we suppose to register negative LFT? I've never done this.

freesolo · 27/01/2022 06:16

Yes, although most probably don't but with schools/ workplaces they ask us to

This is the answer I can't find, whether they are all required to do PCRs before their trip, or is it enough having a family covid pass showing vaccination status

NHS doens't pay for your travel costs is why. You pay for travel-related covid tests.

ittakes2 · 27/01/2022 06:29

Speak to the airline / travel agent. I am pretty sure you need a pcr before flying still if you are in uk. You have to book a private one for 48hrs travel. Ask his dad he’s likely booked it already.

freesolo · 27/01/2022 06:33

Thank you, this makes sense.

Thank you, I have already scoured this but it doesn't give me the answers I need.
I think paying for a PCR test is the only thing I can do and hopefully that will be enough

Your son will be travelling in to Italy (and getting his green pass for entry to restaurants, ski lifts etc) based on his Dad’s vaccination status (assuming that Papa is double vaxed). If he wasn’t travelling with a parent (i.e. on a school ski trip) the erroneous positive LFT might have had an impact on his travel code (by letter at the mo as 14 year olds can’t use the NhS app to prove their vax status until week after next). I hope they have a lovely holiday!

freesolo · 27/01/2022 06:41

@Boobear1972 thank you, that is very reassuring. Dad is double vaccinated and boosted.

OP I am sure I have seen a "incorrectly reported result" or similar on those pages. I'm not in the UK at the moment so it won't allow me to access the page to send you a link, but if you retrace your steps, I think you can correct and incorrectly reported result.

bulee · 27/01/2022 06:48

Don't worry - you said you accidentally entered the wrong result so I'm assuming that the test was actually negative - don't panic
If you repeat a LFT now and it's negative then of course you/they can travel - there are no Covid police monitoring
All Italy requires that you are fully vaccinated - plus you need to complete a passenger location form eu which generates a QR code which you present at passport control on entering Italy - along with your vaccination record- bring your negative LFT result taken the morning you fly - has to be within 24hrs - costs £15 or do a PCR test 48hrs before you travel - but LFT is cheaper - by the time they arrive home - after the 11th Feb - the UK would have stopped all LFT tests on day 2 of being back in the UK - so Covid restrictions are gone
Europe isn't scaremongering as the UK so relax

ittakes2 · 27/01/2022 08:36

Yes just do a private pcr 48hrs before travel. I think the reason you are not finding anything is because it’s not an issue. It’s not uncommon to have false positive lateral flows which is why nhs was asking for positive lateral flows to be confirmed with pcrs. The new lateral flow test kits are less likely to have false positives - but still a negative pcr overrides a positive lateral flow. I personally would not be worried about this.

freesolo · 27/01/2022 08:37

Thank you everyone who has posted, I really appreciate the reassurances. I have barely slept all night and I needed to hear this

OP posts:
ittakes2 · 27/01/2022 08:47

The only thing is I found this - it’s for Scotland but presumably uk has same approach. If I was you I would consider taking him for a pcr test today to almost get rid of the negative lateral flow test in the system.
I am not sure about a family covid pass but if he is 12-15 you can ring 119 and they will send you a paper COVID pass for him within 5 working days. I would wait until you have the pcr results back and then ring so the pcr results will be registered on the letter. And them do his 48hr to travel pcr. I think if you do things this way ie pcr today it will override the lateral flow result in the system. But you could ring 119 to check.
What happens next?

The positive result of an LFD test will be used to initiate contact tracing. On receipt of the test result, NHS National Services Scotland will feed this result into the Case Management System which contains all the positive test case information. This system is used to undertake contact tracing. You will be advised to undertake a confirmatory PCR test result immediately.

ittakes2 · 27/01/2022 08:48

Sorry also meant to post this
What if my PCR test comes back negative?

If the subsequent PCR test result comes back negative, this confirms that you have received a false positive on the LFD. Contact tracing will stop, the relevant traced contacts will be notified and you can stop isolation, and resume your usual duties.

Should no confirmatory PCR test results be received within 48 hours then the case will continue to be considered positive, and where applicable, relevant authorisation codes for the Protect Scot app will then be sent.

MadeForThis · 27/01/2022 09:24

I would take him for a PCR test today. Nhs test.

The negative results with then be on his nhs record.

WanderingLost167 · 27/01/2022 10:47

For travel NHS tests don't count, they want a private pcr, evidence of vaccination
