Would you let your toddler go to a COVID household?

We all had COVID last week and my toddler was really poorly with it. He bounced back quickly as toddlers do but it meant he didn’t get to see his granny once a week like he normally does as my dad also had COVID.

We’re all negative now and have a mini break booked for next week which we’ve been excited about for ages and are just glad we’re all negative so haven’t had to cancel and we really don’t want to test positive again! My mum has tested positive this morning and so has their whole house hold (younger siblings too) and my dad still has a strong positive.

She really wants to see my son still but I don’t want him to go because one) it was really scary seeing him so poorly and two) I don’t want us testing positive again regardless of what the rules are.

She thinks I’m being unreasonable, and that he won’t get COVID because apparently you’re immune for a while after having it?

I think that @Innvinoveritas is in vino.

WorriedGiraffe · 26/01/2022 14:13

I wouldn’t let him go, it’s against the rules, and she could have a different strain to the one you had.

Not sure what @Innvinoveritas is reading, OP is clearly saying she doesn’t want her toddler to go to a covid positive house.

ArachnidArachnid · 26/01/2022 14:13

To be fair it’s likely you all have /had the omicron variant so he should be fine and protected against that for now. But there’s the wee chance they or you have delta or another variant, in which case he could catch it again right now.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/01/2022 14:18

I also think you’re doing the right thing. Quite apart from the legal aspect, it is entirely possible for him, however unlikely, to be reinfected with another strain.

She's being ridiculous. Just say no. If she argues then quote the government guidelines and say no again until she gets it.

Applebrewsterstea · 26/01/2022 14:36

Wow, I wouldn’t, I know someone who had omicron a couple of weeks back and has tested positive again today.

PattyPan · 26/01/2022 14:39

He will still have loads of antibodies after a week - he won’t catch it again. Immunity declines over time but should last several months at least.

Sometime AIBU is like the twilight zone.

OP. My covid positive mum wants to see my toddler. I don't want him to go because ..... aibu.

Cue most people - of course you aren't.

Then one poster - you'd be mad to go. But clearly you'll do what you want. They just don't want their mum to infect their kid so they can't go away. So agreeing with OP whilst arguing with them and clearly not reading any of it Confused

If you don't want him to visit then say no. Your mums wants as an adult don't trump yours or your ds health.

Personally I wouldn't worry so much about reinfection at this stage but then I'm not a toddler and I'm exposed most days at a school and no one testing positive since sept has been re infected.

Keep away. Keep yourselves well and get better. And have a love,y break away

Anonymous48 · 26/01/2022 14:48

It doesn't even matter what the rules are. It would be completely irresponsible! I'm sorry your mother is guilt tripping you - that's awful. But you are definitely right.

Sartre · 26/01/2022 14:53

You can get it more than once and it can happen in a short space of time. My toddler had it last month and now has it again. It isn’t as bad this time but yeah, it obviously happens and I wouldn’t risk it personally.

SheepDogTed · 26/01/2022 15:06

Just read this. It seems very common to be reinfected quickly.

My young child also had it last month and now has it again. Don’t go!
