Finding somewhere to live is so hard right now... D:

Our landlord has recently decided that he's not going to renew our tenancy so we have less than 2 months to find somewhere new to live. We've been to see quite a few places but have only seen two that we both like the look of.

One is an apartment that comes fully furnished (issue of finding storage for one of the double beds as we'd need a cotbed in one of the bedrooms) and it is £100 a month more than our current houses rent. It's not too far from where we currently live but it doesn't have a garden or anything for our baby to play in as he grows up.

Then there's a house with a garden that is only £50 a month more than our current rent. The issue is that it will add 20+ minutes onto my boyfriends journey to and from work which isn't the most appealing with him doing a mixture of really early and late starts. There are also a number of applicants.

I just feel like there's hardly anything suitable out there and when there is theres some kind of issue and with all the applicants nothing is guaranteed anyways.

It is really difficult Flowers

Personally I would priortise the better house over the commute given you have a child as you will maybe have better weekends? But remember to factor in the increased commuting costs too - will your DP drive to work?

I guess it depends. How long is his commute now? I used to commute 1hr to get to work but it was a bit soul destroying knowing you spend 2hrs in the car for 8hrs of work. 5 days a week that's a lot not to mention the cost of commuting.

Ideally you should try and be as close to work as possible. I would keep looking and see if anything else comes up. The big question is if you move is it for the short term or long term? You can always move again. Also how important is outside space? If there's a park then does it matter so much.

I’d definitely do a longer commute for a garden with a DC. I imagine you’ll be at home with them so you’ll be the one having to take them out of the flat to find outside space to play in which is not pleasant (dog crap and litter, can’t relax in case they run off).
