To not expect to have to do this at baby group?

I've been taking my son to a few sensory sessions. He's 8 months old.

Adults are asked to gel their hands with alcohol gel obviously that's fine and understandable. But they keep asking me to do my baby son's as well

To be honest I've just pretended to do it a couple of times but I'm just wondering if I'm unreasonable for feeling uncomfortable doing that and thinking it's an odd request.

The first thing my son does is put anything and everything in his mouth! I've no doubt if I rubbed gel in his hands he'd want to taste them! It also dries out my own hands having to do it everywhere nevermind a babies skin.

AIBU to think it's not reasonable to expect parents to gel their babies hands before a group?

I understand I don't have to go to that group, I'm just curious if others would find it weird.

Yep, I think that’s weird and pointless and I wouldn’t do it.

I wouldn't do this. I'd be tempted to point out to them that most sanitisers are not recommended for use on children under 2 and that therefore I would be using plain soap and water instead.

I wouldn't put sanitiser on my baby's hands. I don't really like my older children using it.

Sanitiser affects my skin terribly and leaves me sore and in pain.

My only child is in his forties.

I worked part time. He did go to playgroup two mornings a week, 10am to 12 noon, from age 2. but I just dropped and picked up, parents didn't stay.

There were no 'mother and baby' groups.

He started school at three, was four the following month. For the first term it was mornings only.
