To Leave the civil service

Just as the title suggests. I work as a civil servant and I hate my job. It does of course come with job security and a very flexible approach to working days and hours. However, I am utterly miserable and the thought of being back in the office has me looking elsewhere.

I have seen another job very similar to what I do now, its remote but slightly less annually. This would balance due to travel costs, coffee for the train etc. My DH is on board with the change and I am fairly confident I would be successful. There also seems to be a better change of further career progression short term whereas at my current level it would take some time.

Also the Parliaments. Parliamentary staff are not civil servants but pay and Ts are the same and a different vibe.

You don't need to see it as such a finality. You can leave now for the other job, you might decide to go back to the CS later in your career. I have worked in civil service twice in my career and also several times out of it. I'm always baffled when people describe it as though it's a cult that once you leave you can't come back in.

Hi, just stumbled upon this thread and reading with great interest. I have recently joined the civil service and wondering if I have made a huge mistake. I have been given almost no induction and have probably spent 3 hours in total with my line manager in 6 weeks. Tell me it gets better…..
