To ask you to recommend school uniform

DD5 is in age 7-8 uniform and prefers a pinafore with tights. So far I've used Asda and Sainsburys but every pinafore is losing it's grey, so looks old and worn after a few months and all of the grey tights are bobbley and shapeless.
Is the uniform supposed to be replaced every few months? That seems awful to me, both financially and environmentally. Are any of the other shops any better?
Sorry for a boring thread 😴

I always buy from Asda, two pinafores at the begining of the year got us to April before shed outgrown it.
Wash at 30 as it's normally only yoghurt stained from lunchtime.
Matalan ones are cheap and last long as well but she's a tall and very slim child and the Matalan ones are too wide at the shoulder for her.
I've never had good luck with tights though regardless of where I get them from

@BogRollBOGOF

DS1's M&S shorts last for years. Many years!
Yes!!! Shorts in this house have also been passed down 3 times, and I'm very particular about how things look.

M&S last well but if your child is on the slimmer side it will hang like a potato sack. M&S cut school uniform on the generous side. Next are pretty good too.

Colour on uniform does fade though. If you have a few on rotation the colour lasts better but if it’s one in the wash and one to wear they do fade quicker as washed more often. I find I generally need to replace some uniform around February/ March due to growth and things getting worn out. I would say half a school year is good going for clothes that are worn multiple times a week for 6 months.

I've not found an issue with slim children. 2 out of 3 of mine are very slim. Maybe it's because they're boys and I can order skinny/ super skinny trousers? They also do slim polos, shirts and slim jumpers in the senior range. I do buy double the amount of shirts/ polos and 5 trousers when little, 3 at senior level. This lasts all year and gives me less stress washing and ironing!

The one thing I cannot find is de ent trousers for DS1. He has a small waist - 27/28 inch but rugby thighs! No trousers fit him. We've been everywhere. If they fit his waist they're skin tight, if they fit his legs they're huge on the waist and too flared/ like 'dad' trousers. It's so infuriating. He leaves school in summer, thank God. He'll need to get suits made in the future, I reckon!

Also wide shoulders but shirts are easy to find.
