Posting for traffic.

Posted a few days ago about pulling my toddler out of nursery due to faltering growth and illness. Well a week or so ago she had blood in her poop after some constipation, GP requested stool sample. We’ve just had the results and I’m panicking.

The calprotein was 650 (normal range is below 60)
And FIT was 27 and normal range is under 9.9

An urgent referral has been sent off and I’m spiralling and worried she has cancer, the practice nurse said the tests look ‘sinister’

Anyone been through this or has any knowledge that might be help me stop spiralling.

She’s had a blood test for celiac and it was negative

That’s so sweet @indecisivewoman81, thank you for thinking of us!

So we saw an incredibly expensive private paed gastroenterologist who basically said that fecal calprotectin shouldn’t have been done as she’s under 4 and those numbers are typically higher in the under 4s as a rule anyway so it not clinically appropriate.

He weighed and measured her again and she’s on the 9th centile so at the lower end of MPH so he wouldn’t consider he faltering growth and as the weight gain was so substantial (too substantial for a toddler who’s had another bout of gastroenteritis) he said that measurement before can’t have been accurate as a two year old won’t really put on 600/700g in 6 weeks.

He gave her a physical and reviewed her symptoms and blood work and basically said she was withholding and that caused her to be constipated and get a small tear when straining. Said it’s very common for children as they come up to that potty training age

@Kanfuzed123 well that sounds really plausible. Sometimes it's worth the expense just for piece of mind.

Did the doctor have any explanation as to why there have been 5 bouts of stomach illness in recent months?

The with holding poo thing was definitely something both of mine did to some degree.

Glad you got some answers

I think @indecisivewoman81 it’s just that time of year, bugs galore. She’s at nursery so it spread like wildfire! She gave 2 of the sickness bugs to me too, super duper fun in the third trimester of pregnancy Grin
