my parents bought me a present based on an idle comment from me months ago about wishing I could play my LPs.

It is ghastly. It is a cheap-looking and tacky Olde-worlde music centre supposed to look like a gramaphone player. The sound quality is awful. I got better sound from my old tranny radio when I was a teenager.

It looks awful, it is quite big and bulky and because my mum and dad visit often, i will have to have it out on display somewhere.

I will also have to go to a lot of trouble rearranging stuff in my living room to accomodate this monstrosity...

I cannot tell them I am disappointed with it, because I love them and I am very grateful for the thought. It's just hideous. How soon before a dreadful accident could befall it do you think?

"old style elegance" rofl

pinetreedog · 28/12/2007 18:21

There is no place for presents in the 21st century western world. They are redundant.

Tell them all that next year, fiend. As you toast your lp player over an open fire.

SpacecadetLovesChristmas · 28/12/2007 18:23

tell them youve put it in your bedroom..then bung it on ebay.

fullofchocolatemoonfiend · 28/12/2007 19:04

that's the plan with the mostest votes so far...
Think I'll have to have it conspicuously on display for a few months first though. Sigh.

ask for reciept x

fullofchocolatemoonfiend · 28/12/2007 19:15

I can't ask for receipt, makemine - the whole point is not to upset my parents by letting them know I hate it

lol, what a shame. Bet your parents were so chuffed at having got exactly what you wanted.

You are not alone

currantbunmum · 28/12/2007 19:31

Your parents obviously thought they were giving you something you would really love, please don't hurt their feelings.

It is a good idea to put it in your bedroom, then at least it is out of the way of the DC, as you are worried they may break it.

fullofchocolatemoonfiend · 28/12/2007 19:34

PMSL kinder - I want to email the seller to commiserate

currantbunmum, I would never do anything to hurt their feelings - hence this thread!

nice try fullmoon..but I think ill keep the nintendo ds if you dont mind

Roobie · 28/12/2007 19:49

Your parents sound like sweeties for remembering your idle comment from so long ago. That said, I agree it is hideous - how on earth did they find it? If I were you I'd keep it in my room for a few months and then consign it to the storage cupboard.

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2007 19:52

oh, bless them. Agree with the consensus, have it out for 6 months, then accident befalls it.
