C section booked, Labour just started

Booked in for a c section at around noon today. Bloody labour has just started.

I don't know what to do.

37 weeks today, waters went late on Friday evening.

I don't know your history, but just anecdotally.....I had a horrific 48 hour back to back forceps delivery with my first. My second literally popped out after a 2 hour labour 10 minutes after I got to hospital.

Huy456 · 23/01/2022 07:16

I bet. If you're progressing well and baby is happy I'd give it a go as so many of my friends had quicker second labours and it would mean you can drive / be up and about sooner. You shouldn't get an infection if things go quickly

tvcc · 23/01/2022 07:21

I'm on some oral antibiotics to try and mitigate the infection risk.

37 weeks is very early for a planned c section unless there is a specific concern. What’s the reason for that OP? It might influence how you want things to progress.

My plan was always if I went into labour naturally I’d see how things went. Wasn’t an option in the end as no sign of labour when the c section time arrived.

Planned section was for 39 and 3 but waters broke on Friday walking back from dinner at the Ivy.

Section was since then planned for exactly 37 weeks so I was term and the baby had had two doses of steroids as belt and braces

Good luck OP, whatever you decide you’ll be holding your new baby soon xxx

Sorry didn't realise waters had already gone. Probably stupid advice but if baby is happy can you get up and walk around for a bit, you might get a sense of if baby is likely to come soon

JanuaryBluehoo · 23/01/2022 08:36

Wow I was about 37 and didn't get any steroids?

Id go for section.

You really can't tell second labour's for every.. I had a friend and it went fine there are opposites.
Good luck op!!

Fletchersromancing · 23/01/2022 08:38

Good luck with whatever option OP 🥰

HastaLaVistaBebe · 23/01/2022 08:49

This happened to me almost exactly like this. Booked planned c section, waters went at 37 weeks, steroid injections, then labour.

I decided to try with the labour but not at all costs, and when I didn't progress much I had a (calm!) c section in the evening the same day.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Diggersaursarethebest · 23/01/2022 10:21

Ask about pain relief options OP. If you want an epidural for example, they can sometimes use the same port to bolster the anesthesia if they need to do a C-section.
Is labor coming along well or are they talking about ´augmenting’ -ie giving you some synctocin to increase contractions?

Huy456 · 23/01/2022 16:20

Let us know how you get on x

tvcc · 23/01/2022 16:40

He's here!

11:52 via c section

Started labour at 5:20, labour was progressing quickly so I got moved up the list.

Decided c section would give me the control I needed after an awful first birth

Pleased you got the birth you wanted.
Wishing you both well.

Nongatron · 23/01/2022 16:45

Congrats Flowers

ShadowPuppets · 23/01/2022 16:48

Ah this is my fear, I’m booked in for CS in May after a traumatic first birth and I’m convinced I’m going to go into Labour first. I’m so pleased you got your calm CS after all! And congratulations on your DS!

Somethingsnappy · 23/01/2022 16:51

Congratulations, OP! What's your babys name? How are you feeling?

Whitefire · 23/01/2022 16:53

Congratulations. Your wee one shares a birthday with my ds, who also decided he didn't want to hang around and arrived at 36+4.

Lemonweightloss · 23/01/2022 16:55
