I've recently gone down a bit of a nostalgia rabbit hole, possibly because I'm turning 50 this year and I'm feeling a bit reflective. In a fit of said nostalgia I ordered a bottle of Body Shop White Musk which arrived yesterday. It was the first perfume I ever bought with money from my Saturday job in 1986 and oh my god the sucker punch of memories I was hit with when I opened the bottle! I'm 14 again and have huge hair and I tell everyone that the Smiths are my favourite band but really I prefer A-ha. I still live in my home town and I have ugly glasses and I'm starting my GSCE coursework. I'm in love with Jesse in the sixth form because he reads poetry and has a quiff but he would never notice me and anyway he's going out with one of the cool drama club girls who has a bob and smokes. She probably wears some dead exotic French perfume though, not White Musk.

I wore WM for several years and it brings back so many memories, including my first gig (obscure rock band nobody remembers)/kiss (not Jesse sadly)/drink (Taboo mixed with lemonade).

Who wants to join me on an olfactory trip down memory lane?!

(By the way White Musk is still lovely and I plan to wear it regularly!)

@LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood, that's lovely. Sorry for your loss ❤

evilharpy · 22/01/2022 14:27

I had the usual Charlie Red (which I smelled again recently and couldn't believe how awful it was), Body Shop white musk and dewberry etc, but the one I lusted after and finally got for Christmas was Cool Water - the aftershave which loads of the girls wore too at the time. I still love it (although I don't wear it) and one sniff takes me right back to the 90s.

I pine for the smell of Revlon Flex shampoo and conditioner.

CornishGem1975 · 22/01/2022 14:52

OMG @JeffThePilot I totally forgot about that - we all loved it. Would love to smell that again!

@Haveyoubrushedyourteethtoday

Anyone recall Ananya by body shop?
Yes that’s my memory one. You can’t get it any more. I had it in the late 80s early 90s. The Body Shop was such a big part of that time. Ice Blue shampoo, the little bath pearls and the oatmeal face scrub too!

In my era you were either team white musk or team dewberry

I wore white musk it's very popular with teens again now

At uni I wore something called Tuscany but think it was discontinued

Icouldbehappy · 22/01/2022 15:12

Soft Talk is the Miss Selfridge one.
It used to cost £4.60, or £4.20.
I still have about 1/3 of a bottle left and I’d never part with it! It reminds me of being 15 and onwards, with my first real boyfriend.
They also had a 21st anniversary perfume called XVI.
It was really sweet-smelling and a big spicy, IIRC.
Sadly, I must have finished that bottle.
My all-time favourite is a discontinued one by La Prairie.
It’s just called La Prairie.
I had it in 1999 and it was discontinued not long after that. People used to practically swoon when I wore it Grin
If anyone can find it online, please let me know Wink

Charlie was my first one but Organza is the most evocative of my youth.

honeyytoast · 22/01/2022 15:16

I’m 21 and wear poison girl by dior and every day it reminds me of being 16 and so happy, my mum would get a bunch of those 1ml testers from boots for me Smile

Refrosty · 22/01/2022 15:17

Tommy Girl!

Love's Fresh Lemon!

MrsMariaReynolds · 22/01/2022 15:24

I rocked a bottle of Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth in my early teens (remember her? Don't know if she was know here in the UK, but she was definitely part of the teen landscape in suburban America)
Can't remember what it smelled like, but definitely recall the bottle. It had a distinctive hot pink coil in it or something.

singlenamestar · 22/01/2022 15:24

Anais anais by cacharel
Also a French one I need to
Look up that was really old lady
And then ester Lauder pleasures

Baystard · 22/01/2022 15:26

Another Charlie Red here. I really loved the smell of Charles Worthington shampoo in the 1990s too, there was a funny oblong shaped orange bottle that was lovely. Funnily enough I was thinking about tribe the other day and wondering if it was still available.

Herecomesthesun70 · 22/01/2022 15:35

I started with Lulu Blue then YSlL poison when I became a rock chick
I remember my nan was bought some Samsara god she used to reek or it. Foul stuff.

FrenchyQ · 22/01/2022 15:36

Cacherels Gloria, it made me feel grown up. It had a nice floral/fruity scent. I was sad when I couldn't get it anymore.

IcicleIcicle · 22/01/2022 15:47

Yea to Flex shampoo, smelt amazing. Also Organics shampoo in the green bottle, that smelt even better. God I miss the 90's Sad

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/01/2022 15:54

The scent I remember from my teen years, and longed for, was the scent of Ambre Solaire - we didn’t have suntan lotion - we lived on the side of a hill in Shropshire, and had very few days of sunshine, and we couldn’t have afforded it - but a friend had it, and it just smelled of sophistication and posh foreign holidays to me.

jennywasafriendofmrbrightside · 22/01/2022 16:07

Chloe Narcissus - the bottle and lid shaped like a flower. I was recognisable to my friends and boyfriend by that perfume for years - nicked it off my older sister Grin

Vicliz24 · 22/01/2022 16:12

Rebel because the advent used the David Bowie song . From there to Fidji and Poison

I was gutted when they discontinued it, but Perfume Parlour do a brilliant dupe. It's honestly a dead ringer.
MrsClatterbuck · 22/01/2022 16:35

@AnaVanda

My first perfume was Tramp, bought for me by my Auntie when I was about 12. Can't believe there was a perfume called Tramp!
Totally forgot about this perfume which I also wore. My first was I think Elegance by Avon. I had quite the collection of perfumes Hartnell In love, Tweed, Panache, Gingham, Je Revien. Some of them came in a fancy small pot in the form of a cream.
MrsClatterbuck · 22/01/2022 16:56

Also loved Avon Honeysuckle. Might have had this before I got Elegance. One I really loved but hasn't been produced for years by Nina Ricci is Capricci excuse spelling wore it late seventies early eighties
