Man cleaner in women changing rooms

Globaluser · 22/01/2022 08:17

So I moved to Europe a year ago nearly and just recently started coming to the gym.

In this gym there were no notices up to state there’s both male and female cleaners. So I was caught kinda off guard when I walked out the shower and came across a man mopping the floors.

So I’m wondering since I didn’t really go to any u.k gyms. Is this actually normal?

I mean for me that means I will be showering at home from now on, as I see a difference between women seeing me naked and a man seeing me naked.
So I just wanted to ask how many of you would mind and how many of you have come across a male cleaner in a womens changing room in the u.k.
Thank you ☺️

The world is no safer for women now than it was when single sex spaces were first recognised to be important. We have them for a reason, and they were introduced in spite of ours being a patriarchal society, I.e. they weren't established lightly. It's very worrying that trend now is towards the removal of these protections.

@MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor

Women who don't want to get naked with men in the room need therapy. I need therapy because I don't want to be naked with men in the changing rooms, because I know the lengths men go to, because I know the risks they present, and camera are well documented? And I need therapy for that? You need your hard drive investigating.
No, you need therapy for being in a near constant state of fear

And maybe a few evening classes for basic reading comprehension

FangsForTheMemory · 22/01/2022 17:40

When I lived in Germany 30 years ago, loos and shower facilities were already unisex.

fandangoclem · 22/01/2022 17:46

Again you misunderstand @JigglyPiggly if you want to change in front of a man you don't know..that's fine. Its the total lack of empathy you have of women who are not so happy to do this that leads me to this conclusion.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 22/01/2022 17:49

I've never seen a male cleaner in a gym , probably because it's still one of those jobs some men see as beneath them. There should be more male cleaners about

If I came across one in a female changing room and didn't like it I'd go to reception and ask that they put a sign up. I wouldn't just go home and ask the advice of mn

I also don't have empathy for people who fear covid vaccines, or that the rapture is coming

If you're that worried about a man cleaning the changing room there are a plethora of options to avoid it.

Many women are fine with this, it's quite normal for both men and women to clean toilets and changing areas in many gyms and leisure centres, it's high time those who are more sensitive adapt, instead of making an issue where there isn't one.

Especially when this risk isn't even present, since not one person on here can evidence one male cleaner doing anything seedy in a gym changing room

Waitwhat23 · 22/01/2022 18:04

Your lack of empathy is genuinely shocking. Women with trauma responses, and women whose religious beliefs mean that they cannot change in front of males are just two groups who will be excluded from services if they are being told to 'adapt' to be less sensitive of being naked and vulnerable in front of males. It's an adaption of the urinary leash - women who don't like it are being told to just stay at home, in the same way that women who require single sex rape crisis services and are being denied this are self excluding from such services.

And whether there are instances of male cleaners being 'seedy' or not is irrelevant. Some may be fine changing in front of males. Many others aren't. You don't get to give away their consent.

Nope, but businesses don't have to give in to the few

If you have a problem, you need to be the one to adapt

A pretty simple concept as an adult

Not sure about gyms but my dad worked in a high street fashion store (the only male there at the time) and had to do his "turn" on the female changing rooms door. He used to feel uncomfortable but he came to realise it was equality in the work place. I think it's is great. Goodbye sexism!

Pigglyjiggly · 22/01/2022 19:30

Don't shit on your own doorstep

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 20:13

Is that why you changed your name from JigglyPiggly to Pigglyjiggly. Because of the huge amount of diarrhea you spewed all over this thread. You certainly did shit all over your doorstep.

Try harder.

What the hell are you on about
MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 20:20

Ah, you're an entirely new poster with a virtually identical name.

Righty ho. What a coincidence.

notacooldad · 22/01/2022 20:22

When I worked in a leisure centre in the early 80's it was perfectly normal to have either gender cleaning any of the changing rooms. I go there as a member these days rather than an employee and it's still the same ( a few of the old staff still around as well!! )

But that is not the same as having men inside a female changing room. It’s no different from having men on the lingerie till which I have experienced and am not bothered about.

I’m surprising myself how strongly I feel about this.

ChristmasCrackered · 22/01/2022 20:26

I’d hate this. Not even to do with fear just embarrassment, both for me and the man.

?

I saw it and assumed it was a pathetic troll

Or you

Grin
MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 22/01/2022 21:18

Certainly not me. Im sure mnhq would be willing to check. They're normally quite obliging. ☺️ Although looking at your posts here, it looks like it's you who is the troll, rather than the second poster.

Just an observation.

How is it ‘giving in’ to make your customers feel as comfortable as possible? I refuse to believe it’s that difficult to have male cleaners for the men’s changing room and female for the women’s. My gym is open from 6am - 10.30pm, which I don’t think is unusual. No cleaner is working a 16.5 hour day. Even if the gym is so small that it only needs one cleaner at a time, surely there would be two shifts a day? Hire one man and one woman; both do a full changing room clean at the beginning and end of their shifts. Both changing rooms get a twice-daily full clean. Problem solved, and no one has ‘given in’.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/01/2022 00:15

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor

After all, this man was simply doing his job“

I don’t know what your experience is and what makes you so distrustful of men but it’s doing you no good.

I was abused verbally, emotionally, physically and sexually for my first 15 years, by my father then my elder brother.
I have no contact with either of them. That was my choice because I recognised that they were sick individuals, their problems were their own. I also chose not to be a “victim”.
I’m 58 now and for 43 years no-one has hurt me. As a young woman, I found myself in many situations where someone could have done so if they so wished, but they didn’t. Because the vast majority of people are decent.

My husband is a good person, my children are good people, my friends are good people.

Experience has shown me that most people are.

It must be exhausting to go through life being suspicious of everyone. The only person that perspective will damage is you.

The cleaner at your pool is going about his legitimate business. He is very unlikely to have any interest in you. He wants to do his job and get home.

If you have concerns, talk to the management.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 23/01/2022 00:30

I don’t know what your experience is and what makes you so distrustful of men but it’s doing you no good.

Oh right. So I should go get myself some help because not welcoming men in to women's spaces is somehow unreasonable 🤣

Give over.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/01/2022 00:36

It’s a person doing a job that he’s been instructed to do. He’s not interested in you.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 23/01/2022 00:39

Do you know him then Mrs Skyler?

Thought not.

No concern for the op walking out the showers in the women's changing room, to find a man standing in there when.

Thought not.

The gas lighting on here is really quite something. And extremely transparent.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/01/2022 00:44

Can only repeat, as another woman, I wouldn’t want to see a naked person of either sex stepping out of the shower. Why could OP not wrap a towel around herself? Hardly a radical idea.

nalabae · 23/01/2022 02:19

Normal here but they should have a sign up
