To feel a bit weepy about Meatloaf dying?

I'm 59 - his music summed up my late teens, early 20's. Bat Out of Hell was like an friend; I know every word to every song.

2016 was a horrid year, losing David Bowie, Prince and George Michael (who was only 2 weeks older than me!) but this one has walloped me in a way they didn't. Wish I'd got to see him live Sad

I'm only 36 but I grew up with my parents playing him and I've always had his music in my car. I feel very sad too.

Waking up this morning and remembering that, yes, he really had died yesterday, knocked the wind out of my sails all over again.

The best live performer ever! I was very close to tears when I heard. It formed a big part of my youth and connection with my sisters. He was amazing.

Yeah. Me too OP. It’s a weird feeling. His music was like a sound track to my childhood. Dad played the BOOH LP every weekend then drunken karaoke to PBTDL as a teen. I’m definitely saddened by his passing.

Mumofsend · 22/01/2022 18:34

I'm 28 and my dad was a huge fan. His death made me realise just how many childhood memories his songs take me back to. I'm really sad about his passing Sad

It’s so sad. He was so talented and he came across as a passionate man who really cared about his fans 🙁

I'd Do Anything For Love was played by the band at Buckingham Palace this morning as a tribute to Meat Loaf.

thepeopleversuswork · 24/01/2022 12:08

I actually can't bear most of his music (will make an exception for Dead Ringer for Love). Bat out of Hell, Anything for Love are both terrible dirges IMHO.

But I just loved his hilariously swaggering persona and some of the stories which came out about him. Particularly the one about him having constantly played silly buggers with the media by telling them rubbish to see if they'd print it. He told Sky News he was planning to buy Hartlepool FC and the reporters started claiming he was house-hunting Grin.

Another saddened person here. BOOH was always blasting out of stereos in my teen and student days, as was Dead Ringer. (I also have a soft spot for Jim Steinman's without-Meat album Bad For Good). Loved that gloriously overblown melodrama (as a melodramatic teen).

How am I only finding out meatloaf died??

upaladderagain · 24/01/2022 12:31

I saw him live three times, and he was terrific. Such a great showman who put everything in to his performance. The best I ever saw.
The last time was just a couple of days before he collapsed at Wembley (?), and it was obvious he was very unwell but he kept on going. Tbh it was a miracle he was still standing by the end. But he had such commitment to his fans that he just wouldn't give in.
So sad he's gone, but he leaves many happy memories and warm hearts 💕

I was a big fan. Saw him multiple times live. His concerts were amazing.

I've been sad all weekend and have played a lot of his music over the weekend.
