Facebook sale from 4 months ago wants money back

Hi there.

I’m just looking for advise on what I should do.

Someone bought a tommee tippee prep machine for £30 from me in October. It was being used before she bought it and was working and fine.

I’ve had a random message yesterday from the lady saying it doesn’t work. She’s just tried it now. It was over 3 months ago she bought it.

I explained to change the filters etc but she’s demanding her money back and saying she will come to the house. Thing is I know this worked when she collected it.

What would you do ?

I would ignore.

Winterfellismyhome · 21/01/2022 16:28

Say no and block her. If she turns up at the house, id ignore the door

AutumnLeaves21 · 21/01/2022 16:29

Tell her to get to fuck. Block.

Littlewhiteballs · 21/01/2022 16:29

Sold as seen. Even large retailers won't take an item back after 3 months so why would you? Tell her no, you won't be taking the item back.

Theunamedcat · 21/01/2022 16:29

Tell her no it was working when you sold it she has obviously used it and broken it

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 21/01/2022 16:29

Tell her she should have bought the extended warrantee?

Lazypuppy · 21/01/2022 16:29

Nothing. I would ignore her. She's obviously trying her luck. There is no protection buying through FB. Her fault for not testing when she bought, however i think she just wants her money back

Heathercost · 21/01/2022 16:31

Thanks guys. I’ve blocked her now. I was trying to be friendly and kind but was getting abuse back. Hopefully that’s the end of it. Nice to know you’d think the same

Ignore and block, she’s trying her luck!

Heathercost · 21/01/2022 16:33

Next time I think when I sell something electric I’ll show them working before collecting. Then can’t get this. I said had she took it home and said straight away I would have been confused as it was just working but would have understood a bit more. But 4 months ago anything could have happened

Just one for the future - I always arrange to meet anyone I sell anything to in town or a supermarket car park or something so I can give the item to them there. There's some real chancers on FB marketplace and I'm always careful that things work/are in good condition/I'm upfront about any faults before they leave my house. I've no interest in some numpty turning up at my door several weeks or months later because they've broken it or it doesn't fit them and they've decided that means I must owe them a refund. Doesn't work for some furniture etc. obviously, but anything that's easily portable I do.

toastfiend · 21/01/2022 16:37

And take a video of it working/zips going up and down/it being clean and in good order before they take ownership of it.

SalmonEile · 21/01/2022 16:38

Sold as seen, for all you know she’s been using it all this time and now wants to off load it or has broken it Even if she genuinely didn’t use it until now the onus was on her to check it worked at the time

Sprig1 · 21/01/2022 16:39

I wouldn't even have responded to the first message. Chances are she is trying it on.

GrapefruitPink · 21/01/2022 16:40

Block

In future meet people somewhere and not at your house.

Accidentgirlfriend · 21/01/2022 16:42

I work in retail we now have people bringing back xmas trees and Xmas lights saying they are faulty and there’s nothing we can do . Same with summer , gazebos etc they just use them for the season and bring them back for their money back !

Some people have no shame !!!

RedCandyApple · 21/01/2022 16:43

They will still try it on even if you show it was working they will say they got it home and it isn’t now, personally like above meet in public place,
Local supermarket etc. My sister had this with a rug she sold. the woman asked her to deliver it and when she saw it she said she loved it said it was beautiful. But when my sister left she got loads of abusive messages saying it’s horrible and she wants her money back. My sister blocked her and she then kept making lots of fake profiles to message her again.

truthfullylying · 21/01/2022 16:45

This is why I don't sell anymore, I had a real fuss over £1.50 t-shirt once. There are some chancers.

Wonnle · 21/01/2022 16:54

I've had pretty much the same on eBay . Someone claiming his account had been used without his knowledge five months later , feedback was left for the item in question !

Wineisoverrated · 21/01/2022 16:58

Well done for blocking her!

If she comes to the house if you live with your partner send them to the door and say you moved and they’re the new tenants. No idea where you live now! If not close the curtains and pretend you’re not home!

ClariceQuiff · 21/01/2022 17:01

She broke it herself - or it simply stopped working after several months' wear and tear.

ClariceQuiff · 21/01/2022 17:02

That's between him and eBay. If it's true, how were you supposed to know Confused .
FreedomFaith · 21/01/2022 17:02

She's chancing it after breaking it. Stupid cow. This is why the block option was invented.

TidyDancer · 21/01/2022 17:14

I'm assuming she no longer needs it and is chancing her luck.

Pure cheeky fucker territory.

HelloFrostyMorning · 21/01/2022 17:19

Cheeky cow. Ignore her @Heathercost
