Hi there.

I’m just looking for advise on what I should do.

Someone bought a tommee tippee prep machine for £30 from me in October. It was being used before she bought it and was working and fine.

I’ve had a random message yesterday from the lady saying it doesn’t work. She’s just tried it now. It was over 3 months ago she bought it.

I explained to change the filters etc but she’s demanding her money back and saying she will come to the house. Thing is I know this worked when she collected it.

What would you do ?

She could have had it stored in a damp shed for the last 3 months!

I’d be replying that it worked when she collected it and that you didn’t sell it with a guarantee.

I agree with above, there's literally no requirement from Facebook that you refund/replace unlike a proper selling site like eBay or Amazon. It could literally have broken an hour after you sold it and you'd have no responsibility to refund her. 3 months later she's just chancing her arm, she could have used it everyday or stored it incorrectly or dropped a key part of it.

I'd be polite in any reply (you've already said check the filters but repeat it) without admitting at fault but make it clear that you won't be offering a refund in any way. She bought it 3 months later, even if you bought it in store, unless it was faulty they wouldn't be getting a refund. You buy it as seen from Facebook and she should've tested it as soon as she got home.

Any sales through Marketplace etc is surely sold as seen. Would it be acceptable to take a skirt you bought from a charity shop back months later, because a seam had ripped?
You are not a company that offers warranty etc.

Ignore her.

Ikona · 21/01/2022 19:20

YANBU to not give her money back. Unfortunately on marketplace you have no protection as a buyer, so even if it had been faulty when you sold it (although you know it wasn't), she would still have no right to return it for a refund from you.
I would ignore her, although if it were me and she turned up at my door I wouldn't be best pleased, to put it nicely. 😬

She's trying it on. I bet she probably doesn't want it anymore. Tell her she should have told you at the time, you're sorry you won't be refunding her she took it 3 months ago! Be strong OP there are nutters on market place.
