I seem to have developed a weird nail problem after using an at home gel nail kit. I'm not sure if the lamp wasn't curing the gel properly but my nail now lifts from the nail bed, the whites are really irregular and the skin around it is really itchy and peels. Is this ridiculous to go to the drs about or should I wait for it to grow out? :S anyone experienced something similar? Its the same on every nail and looks awful.

Sorry but I would wait this out. You know the cause (the gel nail kit) and the symptoms sound very mild. It's just an irritant contact dermatitis, use an emollient and give it a few weeks to grow out. I don't think there's anything a doctor would do for this, and it would take up an appointment that someone else could need more

My nail looks like this when I've just caught it on something and pulled it a bit. Sorry but absolutely not a GP issue.

A lady at my work had something very similar after doing her nails at home. It was afew years ago now but i'm pretty sure it was some kind of fungal infection.

Strictlyfanoftenyears · 21/01/2022 12:11

Go to a pharmacist, its possibly a fungal infection. You can get stuff to paint on it.

ShirleyPhallus · 21/01/2022 12:12

Could be a fundal infection, have you seen the pharmacist?

OneTC · 21/01/2022 12:12

It looks and sounds more like an infection rather than a reaction.

Go to a pharmacist and ask Smile

This happens to my nails after I’ve had acrylics. Nail just needs to heal and have some time off the gel and lamps and should be ok. For what it’s worth I have a home gel nail kit and ended up with a terrible fungal infection and haven’t used it since.

Nice set of quadruple cross posts Grin

Medievalist · 21/01/2022 12:14

No way would I take up a dr's appointment for that. I'd just cut the nail back as far as is comfortable to avoid catching it on anything and lifting it further.

DoraDont · 21/01/2022 12:15

Looks like a fungal infection.

IroningBoardz · 21/01/2022 12:16

Looks like a fungal nail infection to me. You can buy treatment from the pharmacy.

Toomanypeople · 21/01/2022 12:26

I would also suggest pharmacy not gp

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/01/2022 12:47

If you went to your GP they may well require you to do a clipping/filing to send it off
This takes weeks/months and can give a false negitive

You will have lost weeks of time that you could've been treating
Get yourself a topical laquer ( Curinail is one , there are others that will whiten/brighten)

There are tablets ( for which you'd need a sample and a positive result) but obviously potential side effects and the cost)

Pharmacy is your first step

Thanks all, good advice. Will pop to the Pharmacy today and see what they suggest.
