AIBU to go straight to a small double for my 2 year old ?

Hello collective wisdom of mothers out there.

My DD is two and starting to nearly be able to climb out of her cot. She has a small cot which doesn't convert into a toddler bed and you also can't just take one side down.

I'm considering getting her straight into a small, low double bed and using side rails, rather than wasting money on a toddler/child bed.

Is this silly ? Will I regret it ? Has anyone done this ? Any insights would be helpful. Thank you !

I can happily snuggle next to my DC in a single bed and wouldn't want to waste the floor space on a double... but your house, your rules!

Why a small double rather than a single? I didn't have a double bed until I was about 25!

Both DC went into full size double from cot and we wouldn't have it any other way. Much more space if they're unwell and we can comfortably sleep with them, also space for their cousins to sleepover when they come and to have sleepovers in each others rooms on weekends. On odd occasion we have guests, one of their rooms doubles up for guest to stay and they share for a night or two

@crazyjinglist a small double is like a big single really

Double! We gave our son our old double and we upgraded to a super king, it's great for story time and will last years. We are going to decorate his room soon and my MIL keeps telling us to get a toddler bed or bunk bed and I genuinely don't understand why! Also if we needed to we could have people stay over in his bed and jist have him in beside us for a night

MIL is saying the same to us. Which is what inspired me to ask the question because I hate it when she's right.. and then I regret my decision..

I think I'd prefer the floor space for playing. Standard single would still be big enough for toddler and adult to cuddle for stories

I did this with all of my children.
All bedrooms had excellent double beds in them before they were born and i didn't want to replace them.

The portable safety rail did the trick with each one.
They loved their spacious beds and we never had a problem.

I would make it work.

You must all have huge bedrooms!

Nope, we live in a small two bed terrace. With the bed in the corner opposite the door there's enough space, and DS is too little to play unsupervised so most of his toys are downstairs.

What’s the best small double mattress please? She’s 15 months old, sleeping in our bed as she’s too big for her cot.
Floor bed being made by Grandad but haven’t got a clue on a mattress. Thanks

DS 2 is in a toddler bed, it's so bloody hard to lean over to comfort him. We move soon and he's going into a double. There'll be walls on three sides with headboards (we're building the house and have build his bed nook the exact right size) with removable rails on the side he gets into. I can't wait, I think he's going to prefer being able to move more in bed too.

I think it is a good idea, they grow so fast and a good quality bed will last for years and years. However, if you put a small child in a bed next to a wall make absolutely sure there is no way they can slip between the bed and the wall. The first toddler death I experienced in A and E had got trapped this way. Use a bed guard both sides.
