Unvaccinated and was due to finally have my vaccine tomorrow as I’ve been unwell with long covid for so long I just couldn’t put it off anymore despite my concerns.
Low and behold daughter has just tested positive.
I’m absolutely petrified.
Not only did Covid wipe me out for a month when I first got it last year; I’ve had ongoing health issues ever since / signed off sick from work and waiting for numerous scans etc and a referral to the long Covid clinic.
She’s only 9 so I don’t know how to isolate her from me and her sister - this is a complete nightmare.

I would go through with the vaccine. I read that the vaccine actually has a positive impact re reducing long Covid symptoms.

thaegumathteth · 21/01/2022 00:59

I don't think you can isolate from her really. I'm confused why you haven't had the vaccine but that's not the point just now, all you can do is good hygiene maybe up your vitamin D etc.

As a non vaccinated person she needs to isolate. She can’t go and get the vaccine now for 5 days sadly.

On a small proportion, not the majority.
CovidConfused123 · 21/01/2022 01:07

I can’t have the vaccine Saturday now because I have to isolate.
I didn’t have it initially as was very poorly, I literally had bouts of tonsillitis, flu, Norovirus and then Covid.
There wasn’t a time I was well enough to have the vaccine and because I’ve been so unwell with long Covid I didn’t want to make symptoms worse by having the vaccine.
Then I decided as the above poster said that there are links to it helping long Covid so just to bite and bullet and do it and this happens Confused

Isn’t it 10 days I have to isolate for?
DD can go back to school on day 6 of day 5 and 6 LFTs are negative but I have to isolate for 10?

OP posts:
Lindy2 · 21/01/2022 02:04

I believe it is 10 days you need to isolate for.

I guess you both need to just keep your distance from each other as much as possible. At age 9 she should understand that she must avoid getting very close and hugging etc for a week.

With a child at school you must have been aware that there was a reasonable chance she could catch it.

CovidConfused123 · 21/01/2022 07:13

Yes i know, I just have been so unwell i couldn’t have had the vaccine before now, im pretty much bed ridden.

As unvaccinated you have to isolate for ten days. Explain to your daughter..she understand. My five year old would. Keep in different room from her, keep window open if possible and fingers crossed for you. Get vaccinated as I know you wanted to after the ten days x

toomuchlaundry · 21/01/2022 07:21

If you have been practically bedridden how do you look after your DC?

Crayfishforyou · 21/01/2022 07:24

I’m one of the long covid people the vaccine helped. My GP said you have to be at a certain stage to get benefits from it, I was improving by then and already getting stronger so I could go for it.
You did the right thing avoiding it if you weren’t well at all. It could have made you worse.
Your immune system will have a degree of memory for the virus. It shouldn’t affect you like it did before.
I’m double vaccinated but got covid for the second time before my booster. I was ill with severe cold/mild flu symptoms for two weeks. It was nothing like last time. It has flared up some of the long covid symptoms, but they are bearable.

CovidConfused123 · 21/01/2022 07:28

I have a partner who has done most of the childcare since I’ve been poorly.
Thank you so much for the replies - I will do all I can and wear as mask inside too I’m hope I don’t catch it.
I honestly have been so unwell I didn’t think I would withstand any side effects from a vaccine.
It wasn’t until omicron emerged that I started really worrying and more and more of DDs classmates were coming down with it so I had no choice but to look into the benefits even though I’m very poorly and thought it would be worth a shot.

CovidConfused123 · 21/01/2022 07:29

I’m so glad the vaccine did improve things for you - a lot of my long Covid is joint pain so this was my major worry if the vaccine could cause a flare up.

I saw from another one of your posts that your Covid infection was about 3 months ago. Hopefully, as you will now have some antibodies, you will have some protection from catching it from your daughter. If you are unlucky and catch it again, the chances are it will be milder.

I really do recommend that you get vaccinated as soon as you can. It's not known how long antibodies from infection last, particularly with different variants.

It doesn't seem like you are ok with catching Covid and as the virus is here to stay then giving your body a helping hand to hold off serious illness and hopefully further infection makes sense.

I had Covid a year ago before vaccination was available. It took 3 months to start to feel better and 6 months to start to feel a bit more like my normal self. I hope you start to recover better soon and again, potentially, vaccination may help that process.

VelvetChairGirl · 21/01/2022 07:30

You will probably make yourself more ill worrying about it, the new strain is 70% milder then the last one.

Still have you been to checked over to make sure you have not got anything underlining having all those illnesses in a short time is a bit strange.

and stress can make you ill and weaken the immune system and all kinds of things the mind is a powerful thing

Briarshollow · 21/01/2022 07:31

I think there probably has been time you could have had it, you’ve not been in bed for ten months surely? But you didn’t get round to it and are now regretting it. Book it in for as soon as this isolation is up.

VelvetChairGirl · 21/01/2022 07:33

wearing a mask wont help, its her who needs to wear it, not you.

toomuchlaundry · 21/01/2022 07:34

FFP2 mask offers some protection to OP

CovidConfused123 · 21/01/2022 07:40

My immune system was knocked to shreds I’m not sure why it happened like that but it did.
I was always unwell and of course I regret it now but I was so worried the vaccine would make me end up in hospital as I was already so sick.
I’ve had lots of bloods and deficient in a few things but nothing that should cause me to be like this hence doctor saying long Covid and I’m waiting for my first appt at the long Covid clinic.

If you've been bedridden recently then I guess you can just carry on with this and not let your daughter near you. I'm sorry to hear you've been so poorly, I still have long Covid symptoms after having the virus in March 2020 and I think I'm probably just broken forever, I understand the fear of contracting the virus again. Can your partner carry on doing the childcare and you isolate from the family.to.keep you safe? As you aren't allowed out of the house anyway.
I hope you get through this ok OP

CovidConfused123 · 21/01/2022 12:33

Long story but we are cohabiting after splitting and starting divorce proceedings.
I didn’t want to derail thread but he’s been hands on in the sense of helping with the children when he’s here but I do all the school runs etc so by bedridden I mean school runs sleep and repeat.
When would be deemed safe to get my jab after contact but not positive myself I wonder Confused

OP posts:
Ohdearthatwasntgreatwasit · 21/01/2022 13:20

Of course you can break isolation to get the vaccine.

You can go food shopping, to the job centre and do jury service too.

Ohdearthatwasntgreatwasit · 21/01/2022 13:21

Helpful info here

CovidConfused123 · 21/01/2022 13:44

I didn’t think I would be allowed the vaccine as posters say they ask at the centre if anyone in the house is positive?
I’ve also been very worried about whether the vaccine could make me very poorly if I am in fact carrying the virus ( probably omicrom as have already had delta ) and get the jab - I’m not sure if it would send my body into some sort of overdrive Hmm
