To ask how to heat me up?

I have covid, day 2 and today I have been shivering like crazy to the point it's hurting my body I am shivering so hard. The heating is up at 23. Hot water bottle heats up whichever body part it's touching but shivering everywhere else. Bath feels cold after a while. Shower works slightly but freezing as soon as I get out of it.

Im also getting brain zaps.

Has anyone else experienced this and got any tips to manage it?

Do you have an electric blanket or heated throw? That works for me when I have fever aches.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/01/2022 16:26

Btw paracetamol will also help.

LadyFannyButton · 19/01/2022 16:29

Are you shivering because you have a fever? Have you taken paracetamol?

Treating a fever
Most fevers will improve of their own accord in a few days. However, there are a number of things you can do to help the uncomfortable feelings associated with a fever.

Don't over dress. Wear loose comfortable clothing and make sure the room you are in isn't too warm. You shouldn't attempt to make yourself feel cold.
Drink more fluids, avoiding alcohol as this can make dehydration worse. You sweat more when you have a fever and drinking water makes sure you won't get dehydrated. You should be passing urine approximately every 6 hours. A pale yellow urine means you're unlikely to be dehydrated.
Take a medicine that reduces fever such as paracetamol (unless you're allergic or have been told by a healthcare professional that you can't take it).

Cool damp towels. If you have a fever you'll be shivering and feeling cold because of the high temperature. You'll feel like you want to warm yourself up even more but what you need to do is lower your body temperature back down again

Okay thank you for your tips. I have an electric blanket so have put that on. Never thought about that. Thanks all!

Has anyone experienced brain zaps? They're really freaking me out. Everytime I walk my brain like zaps and shakes, weirdest experience and can't find anything online.

Thank you, my mum is just dropping me off a thermometer to check. Thanks Smile

Do you have a thermometer? It's possible you have a fever, so adding extra layers etc may not help, you may need to bring it down if its high.

Nidan2Sandan · 19/01/2022 17:13

If you're shivering, you have a fever. Paracetamol will sort that out easily.

In the meantime you need to strip off, not wrap up.

kentuckyfriedpizza · 19/01/2022 17:18

Okay I will do thank you, feels so unnatural as I am freeeeezing. I think I have temp but my mum is dropping one round in a little while (live on my own with daughter so no one to nip out for me). Thanks all Smile I have also taken paracetamol and will alternate with ibrufon.

I had same experience with Covid OP, including the brain zap thing. Alternate doses of ibuprofen and paracetamol definitely helped keep things somewhat manageable but didn't stop symptoms altogether. Still worth keeping up with doses though as dread to think how awful I would have felt without. Would also recommend keeping an eye on your blood pressure. Mine went dangerously high due to body fighting the infection which added to the symptoms of feverishness/shivering etc.

SlashBeef · 19/01/2022 17:52

You have a fever. Trying to heat yourself up will make you feel worse OP. Carry on with the paracetamol and ibuprofen.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/01/2022 18:01

When I have a fever I still keep warm (and take paracetamol). There is no way I would be putting cold damp towels on my aching skin, and unless the fever is dangerously high there is no need.
