To use a George Foreman for chicken and steak every bastard day

Teenage DS lives for the gym and lifting weights. He is v disciplined and determined. He eats a high protein diet. I do want to support what matters to him and I'm glad he's not into gangs or regular binge drinking etc. He's also v anti steroids.

I can afford for him to have this high protein diet because he compromises in other areas. BUT I am so utterly utterly sick of the kitchen never being/feeling/smelling clean because there is always some fecking meat that needs frying or grilling. It is so repetitive, the extractor fan is on more than its off, nothing goes in the dishwasher etc.

Wondering about getting a George foreman type gadget - will this make life easier or is it a waste of money and space?...

I love my ninja , and burn a candle in the kitchen to help remove smells

We love our "George Formby Grill", but as pp said it's a bastard thing to clean after you've cooked meat in it.

Another vote for batch cooking chicken here. I often marinate and roast a pack of chicken breasts to use in salads for the week. I’ve seen loads of weightlifters posting online on Reddit etc where they’ve prepped and boxed portions of chicken and broccoli for days in advance, it’s definitely a thing.

How long can you keep chicken and rice in the fridge? I’m all for meal prepping but I don’t tend to like leaving chicken for more than 2 or 3 days

I have a son doing the same but he's vegetarian, he counts grams of protein. There are lots of other sources of protein which would lead to more balanced diet and a fresher kitchen😁. Aldi does a high protein granola which he eats with skyr. Veggie burgers with cheese are also high protein source and, of course, nuts and eggs. I've made him protein bars/flapjack using oats with peanut butter or ground almonds and he makes himself milkshakes with skyr. Would he try something different for a change?

Leaving cooked chicken and rice in the fridge for a week sounds like a recipe for food poisoning!

@Wineisoverrated

If he’s not old enough to wash his own things and tidy the kitchen he’s not old enough to cook his own food (that’s what I understood from nothing goes in the dishwasher?) he can wait for actual meal times.

If I’ve misunderstood I apologise!

If it’s a matter of you hate the smell can you show him how to batch cook and meal prep? Sit with him and pick what he wants to eat, work out the macros and then batch cook for five days or whatever - three days in the fridge and more in the freezer. That way he just microwaves it or heats it in the oven?

I totally agree with this!

Can you lay down a boundary that if he cooks for himself he needs to clean up after himself within a certain timeframe? Otherwise he'll have to eat with the rest of the family.

@ShockWavezz

DEFINITELY get an air fryer, it's changed my life! I use it EVERY day.

Which make have you got ?

George foreman’s have their place. Top tip is to plug them in outside or run an extension outside!!

mumda · 19/01/2022 22:52

We've got a George with plates that go in the dishwasher.

That cuts down on the chicken being cooked - maybe 2 days of steak, and then something like precooked salmon or prawns?
