Why don't people clean their number plates

Saw a disgusting car yesterday. The number plate was thick with black dirt and you couldn't read the back number plate.

Surely they realise. Why don't they clean the car? What happens if they are in an accident and you can't read the plate?

Almost as bad as 3d plates.

Nothing announces a moron driver more than having 3d number plates.

How strange to come across this thread today. I went for a walk earlier and saw 2 cars that I honestly couldn't read the number plates on and then an equally filthy car with a sparkling clean number plate, where the driver had clearly just cleaned it.

It made me look at my own car when I got home and the number plate certainly needs a wipe! I'll do it later.

It pains me that my car is so filthy now, I actually used to get enjoyment from giving it a weekly to 2 weekly clean but this was pre motherhood. Same as the house to be fair. Used to clean so much more regularly than I do now, and enjoyed both the process and the outcome Sad

I jet washed my car and the roads I drive for work are so muddy and rural give it a day and you can't tell I have dome it In the winter. I am constantly cleaning my lights .My number plate yeap when I get chance, but it is always readable just about Grin.

WiserMe · 20/01/2022 23:22

It's a requirement in law to keep it readable.
Those with very very dirty cars of course will get a difference from washing it!! It will be less thick layers of dirt if you keep on top of it..excuses excuses

I've set off with mine clean but I live two miles down a muddy track and the roads in the village are often filthy too. Car is usually dirty at this time of year because trying to keep it clean is a thankless task!

Off piste but I was told at the MOT that the glass in my headlights would probably fail it next year because of discolouring on the inside! I had to have some bodywork done, bloody keyed in Skipton, and the man doing it mentioned it too and he did whatever needed doing, can't believe how much brighter they are! Didn't charge me for it either, a prince among men, as my late OH would have said.
