Manager giving out address

Followthefog · 18/01/2022 14:46

I work from home due to covid and currently have covid so I am self isolating. In the last week on two occasions my manager has emailed me to tell me another manager will be dropping off equipment to me. I wasn’t asked, I was told.

AIBU to think they cannot give out my address and phone number without asking my consent first?

WFH might fudge the lines here- are they giving out your home address or your place of work?

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 18/01/2022 15:34

They don't need to ask your permission if they're using your address for official work purposes.

QueeniesCroft · 18/01/2022 15:35

Is there a reason that you are unusually concerned about this? Are you at particular risk? If you are, then your manager needs to know and something needs to be put in place to protect you. If not, then you are worrying about nothing.

thickthighs73 · 18/01/2022 15:36

Ignore this it wasn’t OP who said that oops

storminabuttercup · 18/01/2022 15:41

Are you off sick with covid? I guess if you are then they shouldn't be sending anyone round as you're not working but otherwise I don't see the problem.

Well, yes it says so in the OP, but not all people are ill when they have covid, and presumably they are just dropping stuff off at the door and not face to face.

Presumably you agreed to their privacy policy and within that you should have a right to ask about how they store and use your personal information. So that should be your first port of call as opposed to mumsnet. Personally I think YABU to get upset about this. Why does it matter if it was a different person on two separate occasions? Are you worried about something specific? Is there someone who shouldn’t have your address under any circumstances? Or are you complaining for the sake of complaining??

melj1213 · 18/01/2022 16:01

YABU

A member of the management team was given your address to drop off work supplies while you are working from home, they will have been given your address as it was a "business need", your address is not top secret information.

If your company is anything like many companies j have worked for, all HR and managers at a certain level can access your personal details as they have the security clearance to do so, they just have to prove that they accessed the information for a business need.

If you were vulnerable in some way that meant your address should be classed as more sensitive information - DV victim for example - then you need to let HR know so that they can make a note on your file or change who can access your information.

storminabuttercup · 18/01/2022 16:04

@Snoken what I meant is off work sick as opposed to working from home with covid. If you're off sick then you wouldn't expect them to be sending work stuff I suppose

KatherineJaneway · 18/01/2022 16:44

Couriers are hard to come by at times. This was likely the quickest and easiest way to get you what you need.

I personally think you are being a bit precious. You need equipment, they need to deliver it to you. Don't see a difference between Yodel having that info and a manager unless you have a drip feed and say you have issues with the people delivering?

Your manager and other managers has instant access to any staff addresses....
How do you know that? Confused

Surely that's not normal, wherever I've worked only HR and maybe the payroll department would be able to access home addresses.
