To have laughed at her Slimming World advice?

831 replies

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 13:04

Woman at work has been doing Slimming World. She’s obsessed with it and goes on about it constantly armed with her books and Muller Lights at every meal.
I told her last week I was going to give it a go. I didn’t buy Muller Lights but instead bought some asda own yogurts which had almost identical calorie, fat and sugar content. Sat down to eat lunch yesterday and she came in and said “I thought you were doing slimming world?”. I said “I am” so she said “how many syns in those yogurts?” So I said “none, they’re the same as muller lights”. She replied “no, you’re meant to eat Muller lights!” And looked really concerned and worried!! I did owl noises in her face and told her the calories, sugar and fat etc were exactly the same so why would it matter??! She actually left the room muttering about how it won’t work if you don’t do it properly.

I did slimming world a few years back and stopped because of the cult like behaviour of the members and leaders. I thought I’d give it another go but she has totally put me off again! Nothing has changed!!
She’s been off with me ever since. WIBU to have laughed at her muller light concerns?? Common sense tells you it’s the calories etc that matter, not the bloody name on the pot!!

Maybe I’m missing the point but don’t doves go “cooo cooo”? Owls would be more “Twit twoo”.

iklboo · 18/01/2022 17:57

SW works by limiting what you can use to make a meal.

It really, really doesn't.

pictish · 18/01/2022 17:59

I would have laughed at your owl noises to shut me up…but I have a weird sense of humour and would appreciate the (I think deliberate) surrealism of your technique.
I think we might become friends. Grin

@saturdayhelicopter

Well this thread is a hoot.
That made me laugh out loud Grin
Somethingsnappy · 18/01/2022 18:00

Come back OP! You can't leave now! Grin

Pikaso · 18/01/2022 18:02

I’ve apologised to her, she said she wasn’t even bothered about what I did, she was more frustrated with getting to grips with “the rules”

I did owl noises in her face

Best line on MN so far this year 🤣🤣🤣

pictish · 18/01/2022 18:03

I’d coo back…like calling down The Dove from Above.
But you know, she’s a simpleton who thinks you have to eat Muller Lights to do it properly, so the exchange was never going to happen.

Somethingsnappy · 18/01/2022 18:05

@SynchroSwimmer

….are we talking Barn Owl….or European Eagle Owl?
Or tawny? Although, hang on, actually the OP clarified it wasn't a screech. Maybe a short eared owl?
Meandthesky · 18/01/2022 18:05

You both sound completely ridiculous tbh

I’d avoid you too if you thought owl noises was a valid way to make a point

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 18/01/2022 18:06

At this point OP, we only care about the owl noises.

Can you explain this a bit more?

Somethingsnappy · 18/01/2022 18:07

@Pikaso

But, but, but.... You still haven't properly explained the owl noise. Why does an owl noise stop someone talking? I'm trying to picture the scene, but failing.
EmmaH2022 · 18/01/2022 18:08

All jokes aside

I need to lose weight but systems like would frustrate me too.

Good that there's no hard feelings between you.

The rules? She doesn't even know the basics.

I am 100% sure she did not say "oh you making owl noises in mu face is absolutely fine. I am more bothered about yoghurts and have been for an entire day"

🙄

stayathomer · 18/01/2022 18:09

I think you meant to say 'cuckoo?' I am loving this thread (btw I voted yabu because you really could have just left her to it or explained it nicer!!)

Somebodylikeyew · 18/01/2022 18:09

Every fool knows you make owl noises for WEIGHTWATCHERS, silly. It’s eagle noises for Slimming World…

purplesky18 · 18/01/2022 18:09

I’m meant to be quiet putting my kids to bed yet all I can do is giggle out loud over owl noises in that poor woman’s face. Thank you, OP.

MyFirstHypnosis · 18/01/2022 18:10

My I ask OP whether these pleasant attentions arise from the impulse of the moment or are a result of previous study?

Tal45 · 18/01/2022 18:10

How exactly did you apologise?? Did you say 'I'm really sorry I made owl noises in your face'????

DillDanding · 18/01/2022 18:12

I’m missing the point, but that sounds like an unhealthy diet. Aren’t those ‘light’ yoghurts heavy on the sugar?

Also intrigued by the owl noises.

I’ll get my coat…

AliveAndSleeping · 18/01/2022 18:14

Op I live this thread and I love you (but please don't make owl noises in anyone's face again. It does sound rude whatever it is).

Anyway back to the real point of the thread: I could never imagine what twit twoo sounds like. Don't owls do hoo hoo? I suppose different types have different calls but twit twoo sounds a bit too human.

RobotValkyrie · 18/01/2022 18:15

SW works by limiting what you can use to make a meal. So you struggle to make meals (at first), and lose weight.

Oh. That actually makes sense (in a bad way)

salemcat · 18/01/2022 18:16

You would be making 'ouch' noises on the floor if you had done that to me.....

LindyLou2020 · 18/01/2022 18:17

@DisappearingGirl

Is the owl noises a typo like "then I snapped and farted"?
TO EVERYONE........

I haven't been on MN that long, but I've seen several references made to "snapped and farted" 🤣🤣🤣
Please can someone tell me the origins of this?
I just cannot get on with my life until I know 😪

Butchyrestingface · 18/01/2022 18:17

@MyFirstHypnosis

My I ask OP whether these pleasant attentions arise from the impulse of the moment or are a result of previous study?
I can answer this one for the OP.

They arise chiefly from what is passing at the time, sirrah. She does sometimes amuse herself by writing down and arranging such little compliments as may be adapted to an ordinary occasion. But she tries to give them as unstudied an air as possible.
