It's always when I don't bring a drink up to bed.

I try to drink during the day but is it not enough if mouth is like the Sahara desert in the middle of the night or is this normal?

Not been drinking alcohol. (But realise when I do the dry mouth is worse.)

Mine has been horrendously dry since I started HRT.

Open the bedroom windows a bit.

whatisforteamum · 18/01/2022 23:00

I get this and assumed it was dry mouth another lovely peri menopause symptom.😁

Bakewelltart987 · 18/01/2022 23:02

Do you sleep with mouth open that could cause it.

Stickykidney · 18/01/2022 23:07

Me! I get this but only started in the last month. It's like a cat's tongue in the morning!!!

Certain types of medicines, anticholinergics, can cause dry mouth (along with other side effects).

The list on this webpage shows these medicines and gives them a score as to how likely they are to give you “anticholinergic” side effects, one of which is dry mouth. The higher your total score (add up the score for each of the medicines you take) the higher the chance of you having dry mouth along with the other anticholinergic side effects, e.g. dry eyes, difficulty urinating, dry skin, falls, cognitive impairment, increased risk of death.

@dehyfingdrated
Did you get a humidifier you would recommend please?

Bagelsandbrie · 05/02/2022 18:18

Is it dry at any other time? Google Sjorgens syndrome.

lastnightthemooncame · 05/02/2022 19:59

Another peri menopause here. In fact looking back, it was crazy thirst that was the main indicator, not flushes or sweats.
I was on several litres a day, was convinced I was diabetic & got almost monthly tests, as was fainting too & Dr never said it was a meno symptom, had to find the research! It's less severe now due to hrt.

Onlyforcake · 05/02/2022 20:06

Mine is definitely worse when the heating comes on in the night. I've always been a mouth breather (due to sinus issues) and it is definitely getting worse with menopause process it didn't start as a problem until about two years ago though. It's so dry I can stroke my tounge with my finger and there's no moisture at all! I've got into a habit of having water by the bed.

GucciBear · 05/02/2022 20:20

I have this. I don't produce much saliva because of an - as yet unnamed immune disorder. I am prescribed a mouth gel to try and counteract this. Worth checking out if you develop a number of different symptoms.

Imissmoominmama · 05/02/2022 20:24

I drink two pints of water throughout the night. I still wake up with a dry mouth. I’m 55- it’s been happening for the last few years.

GameofPhones · 05/02/2022 20:34

I get this, and I snore as well. I keep grapes by the bed, as any drinks always get spilled eventually. I find that clearing my nose (blow down each nostril in turn, holding the other closed) helps before going to bed when I remember to do it.

A580Hojas · 05/02/2022 20:35

I wake loads in the night (terrible insomnia) and have to drink water every time. I take a pint glass with lots of ice to bed with me every night - it's a ritual now and I can't do without it. I actually really enjoy those nocturnal drinks of ice cold water - in a way that I can't get on board with during the day as I never feel thirsty.

amusedbush · 05/02/2022 20:40

I get this after I’ve eaten a takeaway or had a salty meal. I bought a little humidifier in Argos’ post-Christmas sale but I’ve looked and it has been discontinued. However, I would 100% recommend using one because I sleep so much better and I don’t wake for a drink in the night.

Really? Oh dear. I have this too, and drink about 3 to 4 litres a day...
Rubyupbeat · 05/02/2022 22:45

Biotene mouthwash and mouth spray are very good for a dry mouth.
I think mine is due to medication and maybe menopause?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/02/2022 23:14

I drink a pint of flavored water or weak sugar free Robinson’s every night sometimes I don’t even remember waking up to drink it, and I always wake up in the morning thirsty and normally down a glass of fruit juice first thing too before breakfast. I’m a very thirsty person and this translates to dry mouth at night too

Stephjane · 05/02/2022 23:23

I have Sjogrens syndrome which is an auto immune condition that causes a dry mouth.

Willyoujustbequiet · 05/02/2022 23:23

I get this, pretty sure its just mouth breathing and you don't realise it.

meddlein · 05/02/2022 23:25

OP, apologies if you've seen it already, but here is a link to the NHS website advice re a dry mouth (always my first port of call for the 'official' advice):
