Following on from the thread about evil , which has been rather heated...
Has anyone ever felt absolute goodness from a person or place?

I met Archbishop Desmond Tutu. When we shook hands I felt an amazing sense of peace and calm.Smile

What a lovely thread! A bloke I used to work with is absolute sunshine wrapped up in a person. We weren't close colleagues but he was always so helpful, calm and serene. No walkover but no ego whatsoever, he's always completely interested in whoever he's talking to and doesn't seem to judge people at all. Always goes quietly out of his way to help people. He just has a real inner glow about him

I worked with a woman like that. Genuinely good person , no side to her, helpful, kind and good.
The oldest friend of my mum is also a good woman.
My great aunt was also just a good person. She left school young to support her family when her father was killed in WW1, worked as a ladies maid in the USA in the 20s and sent 95% of her money back for her mother. She never complained about their hard life, married a good kind man who had an inner glow about him as you described. I miss them both although they are both long dead.

My mum was just such a person, as was her older sister who Mum always said was also her best friend.

This world is a less nice place without them in it.

The only place I can really remember feeling like this is Notre Dame cathedral.

I was brought up as a Christian but lapsed. I'm still very 🤷‍♀️ about faith/the church etc. Sometimes feel I want to believe but it's very hard to reconcile religion with science isn't it?

Anyway, we visited on a whim - I really wasn't that interested. But I entered and what I can only describe as a feeling of complete calm came over me. I felt a strong urge to pray and was completely overcome by the beautiful atmosphere in there. I felt a sense of belonging.

I went to the altar and lit a candle and knelt to say a prayer. I felt overcome with happiness and became quite emotional. Some nearby nuns saw me having a sniffle and came over and blessed me and I could feel the goodwill emanating from them. Dh was looking at me a bit like Confused. But he commented afterwards about how he felt affected by the atmosphere too - not a very dh thing to say!

I know it sounds ridiculous but il never forget the way I felt in that moment. It felt like God was saying to me "whenever you return to me, il be here".

I’ve got a friend/acquaintance through church, a Christian. She is soooo Good. Not a bad word to say about anyone, always doing good deeds. Always very encouraging to others.
And so I feel a bit horrible saying this but there’s something a bit sinister about it. It’s too much, a little nauseating.

I have a friend who is ex-clergy. He is such a calming and peaceful person to be around. Very quiet, not an ounce of ego and just generally a beautiful human.

I also felt something similar to @Bluebluemoon39 at the Cistine Chapel. I didn't scream though! It moved me to tears but I was very quiet about it! (hoping at least some people remember that thread).

Me too! He was so lovely and smiley and just radiated warmth and joy. Beautiful man.

I've had this feeling twice, once in a small church. I'm agnostic but there I could feel such a beautiful feeling of peace and I knew a situation with my friend (illness) would be OK. Another time in a Sikh temple, it felt like the presence of goodness all around, it was wonderful.

Tal45 · 18/01/2022 16:33

I know someone who radiates goodness, he lives abroad and everyone he meets is basically his friend for life. He has time for everyone, has a bazillion genuine friends on FB, lovely wife and child. Very positive, upbeat, kind person.

Juancornetto · 18/01/2022 16:36

I'm an atheist but some of the nicest, kindest, most "good" people I've met have been religious.
