Urgh, Acnecide on eyelids

22 replies

boble1 · 17/01/2022 19:20

Hi

My daughter accidentally put Acnecide on her eczema on her eyelids and around her eyes instead of E45 Confused

She left it on for an hour before realising. We've washed it off.

He eyes are now stinging, burning and very red.

Any ideas on what to do please?

Thank you

Sorry, I didn't realise it was an AIBU Blush

Can you post a photo? Is there any swelling?

123ZYX · 17/01/2022 19:26

Probably worth a call to 111.

Have you got any eye wash? If you've got a first aid kit, it's normally included

boble1 · 17/01/2022 20:00

Thank you.

We've just popped to the chemist and he said to take an antihistamine and use Vaseline. It will swell more but should be ok.

She seems to be growing an extra eyelid crease and it looks worse in real life.

Thank you

Oh that does look sore. I'm glad you've seem the chemist. I had awful eczema type rashes on my eyelids caused by being allergic to my glasses! It wasn't nice at all.

boble1 · 17/01/2022 20:08

@Intothelight123

Oh, that sounds awful! I've never heard of anyone being allergic to their glasses.

My daughter has very delicate skin and seems to get eczema around her eyes after taking her make up off.

We've spent a fortune on make up removers but the all irritate her skin. The cold makes it worse too. xx

So acnecide is benzoyl peroxide cream, yes? Bless her little heart, that’s going to be very dry and sore. It’ll want a decent layer of unfragranced emollient applying regularly. Something like cicaplast baume b5 would work (it’s from La Roche posay) and might feel a bit more soothing than an occlusive like vaseline.

Has she tried balm or oil cleansers and a muslin or flannel to remove makeup rather than the eye make up remover liquids?

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 17/01/2022 20:14

E45 cream would be fine too, just be careful it doesn’t go in the eye or it will sting

Intothelight123 · 17/01/2022 20:16

Yeah, they were cheap ones with nickle in.

You've probably already tried these, but miscellar water is really good, as is baby lotion for removing make up gently.

The cold always made my skin worse too!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 17/01/2022 20:21

Micellar water leaves me with dry tight lids unless I wash it off

boble1 · 17/01/2022 20:22

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda

Thank you. Yes, it is benzoyl peroxide.

She does usually use E45 and put some on after washing off the Acnecide but she said it burns.

I will buy some of the cream that you have recommended, thank you.

She has also tried those cloths that you wet and they take off your make up, but the rubbing makes her eyes sore too.

It's terrible as she only uses mascara.

xx

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda

Ah, the nickel. I imagine you can't wear cheap earring too?

Yes, she ha tried miscellar water and that irritates her eyelids, even after washing it off.

The GP wasn't interested when she had a flair. I had to send a photo and he gave her antibiotics on the off chance it was infected. Of course, it never looks as bad in a photo!

xx

Avoid mascara in future and have eye lashes tinted instead?

boble1 · 17/01/2022 20:40

@Icantremembermyusername

She'd probably get an irritation from that too, lol.

Can she not use e45 to remove her makeup? That's what I do, I have very sensitive skin and anything with a smell screws my skin on my face up

Vispa · 17/01/2022 21:26

Hi I have very sensitive skin/eyes. I find that the more natural formulations of mascara/makeup are much gentler (try Holland and Barrett eg PHB Ethical Mascara). My favourite eye makeup remover is just a jar of pure coconut oil...its effective and very gentle/soothing.

whirlycarly · 17/01/2022 21:32

I really sympathise. I'm allergic to so much round my eyes. It's so irritating in every way.

Clinique take the day off is all I can use for make up remover. They might give you a sample to try.

Pedalpushers · 17/01/2022 21:34

I have very sensitive skin and I rinse off my mascara in the shower.

SprinkleOfInsanity · 17/01/2022 21:35

It might actually be the mascara she's reacting to, and not the make-up remover. I had a really bad reaction to a mascara that had nickel in it (it's used to give the colour) and whilst it was fine on my eyelashes, the act of rubbing it off caused a horrible dermatitis, took me ages to figure out what was causing it. I'm allergic to nickel - many people who have sensitive skin or reactive skin are allergic to it!

whirlycarly · 17/01/2022 21:41

Omg. I'm horribly allergic to nickel. It's in mascara? Shock

weegiemum · 17/01/2022 22:38

My 18yo dd2 has very sensitive skin round her eyes and uses e45. She's also a beauty therapy student and got her eyelashes tinted in class. Also a lash lift. It was a wee bit stingy at the time but now she doesn't have to wear mascara at all and her sore skin is so much better without the removers every day (she has to wear mascara/tinting to class, as it's beauty therapy they have a dress code including makeup).

So might be an idea to talk to a local salon and see what they think?

boble1 · 18/01/2022 09:11

Thank you so much for all the replies and advice - I really appreciate it.

We will certainly try the suggestions.

This morning her eye looks very dry and a bit more swollen.
I just hope the cold air doesn't irritate it or the skin starts cracking.
