Is this a scam?

I posted an ad on gumtree about half an hour ago. Didn't put my phone number as I'm fed up with scammers contacting me through WhatsApp 🙄. Received an email saying
"Good day, forward the price with condition of it to her, my parents wants it"
Followed by an email address. Do you think this is a scam? I'm usually quite good with these things but I just can't decide if I should go ahead and send what they are asking for.

An absolute scam.

Lougle · 17/01/2022 17:20

Presumably you put a price on the ad anyway?

DreamerSeven · 17/01/2022 17:21

I’d ignore for the lack of any manners in contacting you, not even a hello?!

GinIronic · 17/01/2022 17:22

I would block and ignore.

rebeccachoc · 17/01/2022 17:22

Definitely a scam I got a couple for every item I listed on there.

Waspsarearseholes · 17/01/2022 17:23

What would the scam involve? It sounds like it may be someone who speaks English as an additional language.

Moltenpink · 17/01/2022 17:23

Why do all scammers start with “good day”, I’ve never seen it used elsewhere Confused

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 17/01/2022 17:23

I always assume anyone lacking in manners like that is either a scammer or a cheeky fucker so would ignore it either way

Somebodylikeyew · 17/01/2022 17:27

Presumably the price and condition were on your ad though?

Sparklesocks · 17/01/2022 17:46

If they want it they can speak through the gumtree site like everyone else.
If they mention a courier coming to pick it up then it’s very likely to be a scam.

NewYearCalavicci · 17/01/2022 17:50

How did they get your email address?
I haven't sold on gum tree but I would presume they show contact you thought there at least initially.

I think OP means they included the it email address on their gumtree message - suggesting OP emails them rather than uses gumtree to communicate
BellatricksStrange · 17/01/2022 18:01

It's a scam. I usually go along with it, stringing along the scammers for as long as I can. But it's absolutely a scam.

Sparklesocks · 17/01/2022 18:01

*their email message

DerAlteMann · 17/01/2022 18:05

Anything asking you to contact a third party email is usually a scam, at least in my experience.

Thanks everyone, I did think it sounded a bit dodgey. I did put the condition and the price in the ad, along with a picture and a good description.

Ion gumtree you can't see the email address, you just press the email button to contact the person selling the item. It goes through gumtree messages on the website but also goes through to the sellers email. This could be why they want me to use a different email address.
So sick of scammers!

I've done this before on WhatsApp a couple of times, but the last time I posted an add I had 4 of them contacted in the space of an hour all asking me to send the item through gumtree delivery or some shite. Every single one of them asks if the item is in the condition specified in the ad Hmm, well duh!

Sounds like it to get you off the internal gumtree messaging area which is there to protect you. Isn't it the same as eBay and Amazon marketplace where all contact is meant to go through their message/email area and not conducted privately

Blossom64265 · 17/01/2022 18:31

I ignore anyone who sends a generic reply. If they want the thing I am selling, they would mention it, ask a specific question about it, or even make an offer and suggest times they are available to pick up.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/01/2022 18:33

Yes, scamsRUs

Tal45 · 17/01/2022 18:33

Sounds like a scam, you put all that info on the ad. I find now that selling stuff online is more hassle than it's worth unfortunately.

Georgeskitchen · 17/01/2022 18:33

Yes sounds like a scam. Gumtree is rife with it. Tried it on me when I was selling an electric piano

Pixxie7 · 17/01/2022 18:40

She is asking reasonable questions price and condition I can’t see why you think it’s a scam.

NannaMcPhoo · 17/01/2022 18:44

Not sure you can call this a scam based on this informaiton. Make sure you set up a throwaway email account and do not divulge any personal details if you email them.

Sometimes things like this are just because people are fucking odd.

iklboo · 17/01/2022 19:07

Just reply 'all info is in ad'.
