I know iabu but gosh it's so irritating.
I only get a set hour a day to go for a run so I can't change my time :( I always move for other people but I'm getting annoyed at those who can see me coming 3 or 4 abreast and refuse to move. Now unless you're siamese twins does it really hurt to move for 2 seconds to let someone else pass?
Another is dogs who suddenly jump out on you. I almost twisted my ankle because of one today, and I was running in the road waiting to get back on to the pavement because of the owners needing the entire pavement to themselves.
Sorry I'm just a bit fed up and desperate to shift this baby weight :(

Sounds like you need to find somewhere quieter to run? I was getting similarly frustrated with having lots of roads to try and cross on my run so I've found a new route with no roads and hardly any people and it's so much better!

cereallover · 17/01/2022 17:01

I've changed my running route so many times. This is the quietest one :(

Yes I find the walking 4 abreast when you're clearly running towards them thing to be very odd. I always think they're a bit jealous that you're out exercising and they're too lazy to do it themselves, therefore you irritate them.

Don't have a solution really OP, maybe shout 'excuse me!' as you're running towards them?

Momicrone · 17/01/2022 17:26

People don't seem to like joggers as far as I can tell

StoneofDestiny · 17/01/2022 17:43

Yes, walking 3/4 abreast is not good for other pedestrians - running or not. Dogs jumping out at or up on you is never acceptable. Not sure if a so,Union other than running with big spikes out of your running gear.

emmathedilemma · 17/01/2022 17:56

YANBU, people who fill the full width of the pavement when you’re walking or running towards them are just plain rude!

Wannabegreenfingers · 17/01/2022 18:07

4 abreast is rude, but I'd expect a runner to move out of my way rather than the other way round. They are faster.

fellrunner85 · 17/01/2022 19:12

I get that, in theory, but in practise often people walk 2/3/4 abreast and there is no way to get around them. For example, the only place to go might be into the road, or over the edge of a steep drop, or into a bog.
The latter two are most common where I run!

Royalbloo · 17/01/2022 19:18

Get a bell? 😂

But in all seriousness, people being oblivious of others is horrendous in general.

Kochicoo · 17/01/2022 19:47

I'm not saying it's right but I think there's the mentality that footpaths/pavements are for walking on, not running, so the runner should be the one to move. That and the fact that since Covid, lots of people became scared that a jogger huffing and puffing towards them might more easily give them their germs so people walking along actively want joggers to avoid them and not come too close! Obviously this doesn't help you if there's nowhere for you to go.

cereallover · 18/01/2022 07:27

Surely if these people are scared of being near anyone else they would stay inside? And Surely jogging is just fast walking too? I'm using my feet not cycling on the pavement and I'm certainly not a car hahaha.

What also I find weird is that people see me coming who are going the same way as me so I'm behind them but they don't bother moving at all or the ones who are coming towards me who then decide to walk directly towards me when there is plenty of room. It's so weird like what do they get out of it?

OP posts:
stuntbubbles · 18/01/2022 07:31

Walking four abreast is pure antisocial behaviour. Can you switch to doing buggy runs in the park? Weaponise that buggy to push people out of the way? Grin

cereallover · 18/01/2022 07:32

I'd be too scared to run with my pram incase it toppled over.

Amelion · 18/01/2022 07:36

Can I add to this:

People having a lengthy chat across the whole path way - the other day I was running and there were two families taking up the whole path just chatting. I had to weave around them - if you’re having a chat just move to the side of the path a bit surely?

Dog owners with extendable or long leads where the owner is on one side of the path and the dog the other - they expect you to hurdle over the lead. Keep your dog on a short lead on a busy path ffs.

cereallover · 18/01/2022 07:38

Omg yessss your little doggie doesn't need a lead that long. I have started calling out sorry these last few days when coming up behind people and then thank you as I pass. One person was angry about it though. How dare anyone else use his pavement lol.

They’re the same people who stand in the shallow end of the pool for a natter so you can’t swim a full length – why can’t they go to a cafe? What is the appeal of a semi-nude chlorine chat?

These are the same people who decide the best time to dawdle along, having a chat, and stopping with an 'OH MY GOD Shock' every 20 seconds, is in a supermarket aisle. Usually both with large trolleys, standing in front of something that everyone needs to get to (like bread.)

They usually come in at peak times too, when people are rushing to get back to work/pick kids up from school/get home.. JUST MOVE.

rrhuth · 18/01/2022 17:51

I think it is quite annoying when there are a lot of runners so people get sick of moving. I know they should but you either need to accept this, or find somewhere else to run. They aren't actually stopping you running, just being annoying whilst you are running!

eldora · 18/01/2022 18:04

Is it joggers not moving or walkers?

I think joggers should move as you would cause the most impact if you slammed into someone.

rrhuth · 18/01/2022 18:10

Joggers are pavement speeding Grin

Mountaingoat12 · 18/01/2022 18:52

I think a lot of people are jealous of your ability to motivate yourself to get out of the door.
