I'm on day 3 and I feel odd. My anxiety is worse than ever and I can't focus on doing anything, I'm supposed to be working today 🤦‍♀️.

Also I have very sore eyeballs which is odd and I can't see that as a side effect anywhere. My LFTs last week and today are all negative so presumably not covid...

How long did it take you to feel like they were benefitting you? Have you got any tips to feel a bit more human in the meantime?

It might not have been the best idea to start them at the same time as my iron tablets tbh, it's hard to know what's doing what to me!

Thanks for any advice!

How are things today @sleighbellsjiggling? I’m only on 10mg and probably need to up dose to 20 but feeling nervous about side effects

blobby10 · 21/01/2022 12:52

I went on it 10 years ago and started with 10mg a day for a couple of weeks then increased. Can't remember having any side effects at all. Have come off and gone back on a few times without any noticeable problems - was nearly off them January 2020 then mum had a massive stroke and Covid hit so have been back on them ever since Sad. I was worried about being on them for such a long time but my GP at the time said that 20mg is a very low dose and not to worry about it.

Thelnebriati · 21/01/2022 13:17

Eye and vision provblems are a known side effect so mention it to your GP today.
My dose was increased to the max as it was having no effect, and I started having problems with my eyesight. Then suddenly I had very bad blurred and double vision, so they took me off it.

I've been on it for decades, literally! When I hit rock bottom, I up my meds to 40mg. Citalopram literally stops me killing people! 😶

Sportslady44 · 21/01/2022 13:34

Stick with it they really help.you can start on 40 and then go down to 10 eventually.

Mabelface · 21/01/2022 13:55

I'm on 30mg for life. It's kept me alive.

sleighbellsjiggling · 21/01/2022 13:59

Thanks for checking in @GoRicky 😀

The side effects are still really bothering me. I had a really good day on Wednesday where I had no headache and the odd fleeting moment of joy for no reason. Since then the headaches are back - I can only liken them to migraine headaches when I haven't taken medication on time, it's awful.

I'm nearly a week in so hoping that things will settle down soon. I've got no motivation at all so I could do with it to get the house back into a decent state!

Sorry the side effects are still bothering you @sleighbellsjiggling, I started on 10mg and also experienced side effects for a week or two, but then started to feel better, now in the last week feeling anxious again so think I need to up dose to 20mg but a little nervous to do so

Going to ring the doctors this morning to start Citralopram again. Prescribed it and others before but stop taking them after a couple of days as I get scared. I’m definitely sticking with them this time, my anxiety is awful again. My mood swings are unbearable for me and anyone around me and I now realise I have severe ocd. I can’t go on like this any longer or my head couldn’t stick it.

has Citralopram really changed ur life for the better op/pp’s? Lying in bed here going through old posts to get as much info as possible...I need something. I feel on high alert and unfortunately at times suicidal

It's completely changed my DH's life for the better, it took a while for them to kick in but now his anxiety is gone, he no longer has suicidal thoughts and he had the confidence to start a new job, he's got energy again, it's amazing! Best of luck.

Lanareyrey · 09/06/2022 08:07

I had a manic episode after a few years on them. Other than that they were great!

Painintheass22 · 09/06/2022 08:19

Thank you for ur replies.

I am just so scared but I think it’s my overthinking/anxiety making me look into them too much and scare me off them. I need to start something. I just can’t go on like this no more.

Theres more types but it seems Citralopram could be best?

That’s amazing. So happy for u both. That’s the way I want to feel. Can I ask what dosage he started on? Any bad side effects? I just want to feel me...all the time. Not half me. It’s an awful feeling on me and to my loved ones. I constantly pick and them and go on and on and on about minor things. I need help

bridgetreilly · 09/06/2022 09:22

Yup, hit by a train for two weeks, then on day 15 woke up and was like a new person. Definitely worth holding on through the initial crap.

Thank you.

how long have u been on it? Would I be better starting at 10mg first? Rang doctor this morning so waiting on a call back. Did u really find it life changing? I just can’t go on like this. I need to accept I need it or I just can’t go on anymore. Simple as that
