Sir Gavin Williamson - Boris really taking the piss now

I know that Johnson has a history of giving gongs (and taxpayer money, government contracts etc) to undeserving chums, but knighting Gav to ensure he keeps quiet about Johnson’s dirty secrets learned while Chief Whip is surely a step too far even for him?

Gavin Williamson who told Russia to shut up and go away as Defence Secretary, who was sacked for leaking state secrets, who was the worst Education Secretary in living memory, who, when thousands of children were given incorrect exam results losing them their university places, chose not to resign but instead pose for a photo shoot with his whip. The Gavin Williamson who said it was his job to reopen schools safely during the pandemic and did such a bad job that they had to close again, not in a sensible, controlled way, but after opening for one day in January. The one who is currently being investigated for holding a DfE Christmas party?

That Gavin Williamson?

The corruption under this government and Prime Minister so far unfortunately makes this a completely believable prospect.

YABU: Gav being knighted would be fine
YANBU: Gav being knighted should be unthinkable.

And that was after he married the boss’ daughter

DerAlteMann · 17/01/2022 16:44

"Time Serving Politician gets Knighthood." Hold the front page!

ana1s · 17/01/2022 16:46

Surely this can’t be true? Shock

I just can’t believe it. The man is a walking liability. How can this be possible?

LittleBearPad · 17/01/2022 16:46

@DerAlteMann

"Time Serving Politician gets Knighthood." Hold the front page!
Well not usually at such a young age - or not traditionally
Sheabutterisdelish · 17/01/2022 16:48

Would love to know the reasoning behind the single vote (so far) FOR Gavin!

His mum

rrhuth · 17/01/2022 16:48

It is pretty depressing stuff in Westminster at the moment!

StoneofDestiny · 17/01/2022 16:51

Well, that will guarantee his silence about the leadership campaign.

A knighthood for being crap at your job - amazing.Time to scrap the honours system.

ana1s · 17/01/2022 16:54

Well it seems as if it’s true. Utter shambles and not one paper is reporting this in a positive light. Every article is asking why GW is being silenced. Utter joke. The man is an idiot of the highest order. I can’t believe this.

Blossomtoes · 17/01/2022 16:58

I don't believe Williamson will get a knighthood in the near future, even if the PM nominates him. The honours system is independent enough that I think they would reject his nomination, especially as he his caught up in the "parties scandal" for a party at his own department.

Your faith in the honours system is touching - and naive in the extreme. I don’t remember any of Cameron’s ludicrous nominations being rejected.

noblegiraffe · 17/01/2022 17:20

Of the 3% of people who think it's fine to knight Gav, what exactly has he done to deserve it? I can't think of anything.

22itsallnew · 17/01/2022 17:28

@noblegiraffe he provided material for Michael Spicer to make the population laugh?

noblegiraffe · 17/01/2022 17:30

They've all done that though!

Oh god, Dame Priti Patel next?

@CallmeHendricks

Would love to know the reasoning behind the single vote (so far) FOR Gavin!
It could be a mistake, seeing as there’s been no attempt to justify that vote. I notice that so far not even any of the committed Tory voters on this site have tried to defend knighting Williamson.
Thatldo · 17/01/2022 17:56

Didnt Gavin organise a party and Big arse dog attended?the entire conservative party is a laughing stock not just in this country, but abroad too.

Blossomtoes · 17/01/2022 19:21

Oh god, Dame Priti Patel next?

Baroness. Of course she’ll end up in the Lords, God help us.

NiceShrubbery · 17/01/2022 19:40

And of course, Sir Matthew Hancock K.N O.B.

Anyone else they've forgotten?

Orcadianrythyms · 17/01/2022 19:56

I actually think Johnson wants to be sacked and will do anything to make it happen. What I don't understand is where the BBC finds people to say on the news that they'd still vote for him? I live in a true blue area and everyone is saying they won't vote Conservative whilst that clown remains.
