Covid in the house, partner denying it

So child is still testing positive were on day 6. LFT comes up straight away and had a PCR covid in school class.

Husband is a teacher felt unwell all week before our child tested positive. Headache and nausea upset tummy no cough or cold for either of them.

We all lft 3/4 times a week for work and for school. He was negative the week before.

Child sent home on Monday from school for temp, and being sick. I stupidly didnt think to test her that day did the next day and positive.

Partner all week has faint lines on his test but after 30 min mark. Just the nose tests.

He says they don't count after the time, he's had a negative PCR also but he is still having symptoms and obviously child is still positive.

Is he right? Or am I right thinking he's had it/ has it and its too low level to read on pcr hence faint line on lft.

I feel like absolute hell all week and I'm definitely negative no lines and have had a pcr

You have to test the throat as well, my DD was testing negative when only swapping her nose, but positive when swapping throat too.

The new lft that nhs are sending out specifically say they are nose only swabs - despite there being strong suggestions that omicron often isn't picked up without a throat swab, particularly early on.

Yes, he’s right. You’re supposed to look at the result at 15 minutes,

30 minutes is too long.

Is there a faint line at 15 minutes?

My DD only tested positive when swabbing her nose and throat (with nose only swabs). However, your DH is following guidance. So technically he's correct. Morally however....

Star81 · 17/01/2022 00:10

If he’s doing the NHS tests correctly which it sounds like he is and has had a negative PCR then he’s not doing anything wrong !

PiratePetespajamas · 17/01/2022 00:22

Recent advice from Professor Tim Spector (he of the Zoe app) is to swab nose too. Even with “nasal only” tests - as above, it seems omicron is often not showing (or not until later) on nasal tests.

From your OP it sounds like you both feel ill but you believe your own tests but not his?

AllThePogs · 17/01/2022 00:26

I tested negative on a nasal test. Wasnt convinced and did another test with both and it came up a very clear positive.

Lou98 · 17/01/2022 00:28

@phishy it depends on the brand, some are 15mins, some are 30 but either way shouldn't be read after the time.

Your DH is right OP, if there is no line when the time is up then it is a negative test, that's why it clearly says they should be thrown away then and not read after.
If he's also had a negative PCR I'm not really sure why you believe he's negative?

It is possible that it's simply a cold he has. Your Daughter being positive doesn't necessarily mean he is

Stevearnottsbeard · 17/01/2022 01:25

I had a faint positive on nasal test so did a nose/throat test which came up strong positive straight away. Even faint limes should be taken as positive
