To wonder what to do with a box of rancid wine

I found it in the back of a cupboard from Christmas 2019. I'd do Christmas shopping early and hide stuff 😂

Red or white?

Red, casseroles, white, pickles.

JaneJeffer · 16/01/2022 23:00

Offer it to visitors you don't like.

Bywayofanupdate · 16/01/2022 23:38

Deffo cook with it. White for risotto, red for beef

gobbynorthernbird · 16/01/2022 23:43

If its definitely off then don't cook with it, you'll ruin your meal. Just tip it down the sink.

DerAlteMann · 16/01/2022 23:44

Dump it down the drain.

EatYourVegetables · 16/01/2022 23:44

Just because it’s from 2019 doesn’t mean it’s rancid. Sniff test before you tip it down the sink!!

Wallywobbles · 16/01/2022 23:47

Possibly make vinegar if you can get a mother (if that's what it's called). But it'll ruin any meal that calls for wine.

ClariceQuiff · 16/01/2022 23:49

I'd try it before chucking it. It might be OK to drink.

SiobhanSharpe · 16/01/2022 23:53

If it's unopened it will probably be fine, even good!
Opened.... all bets are off

Yes I agree with you.

At least do a taster like on a wine tasting lol

I’ve never been on one but I’ve read about them.

caringcarer · 16/01/2022 23:58

If it is very cheap or taste gross tip it down the drain and recycle bottles.

Monty27 · 17/01/2022 02:32

The sniff and visual tests have been done.
Absolutely no way is it drinkable. Not even for cooking. It's really rancid. I wouldn't even use it for cooking.
It's Marche Blonde Italian white "craft wine"
Can I even use it in the garden to ward off snails?
😱 Can't believe the waste of a whole box of wine 😭😭😭🤣

Breastfeedingworries · 17/01/2022 02:47

At this time I’d drink it 🤣🤣

1forAll74 · 17/01/2022 02:48

I thought wine would be ok if it hasn't been opened at all.. like the aged wines that people keep in cellars, as some of them mature I thought.

DropYourSword · 17/01/2022 02:50

Why is this even a question! What on earth else could you do with it other than just tip it out!

Monty27 · 17/01/2022 02:52

So did I. I opened it to pour a glass into a dish I was cooking. It was like dark brown and stank 😲😂

In which case, straight into the drain. Might clear any potential blockages Grin

woopdedoodle · 17/01/2022 10:12

If it was in a bottle it would probably be OK, but boxes are not designed for long term storage. It's oxidised, dark brown and usually a slight sherry sort of taste. Flush it , don't waste any time on it.

Sheabutterisdelish · 17/01/2022 10:14

Why do people bother posting questions like this 🤔😳🤦‍♀️

autopsyandgrim · 17/01/2022 10:16

Pour it down the toilet. If it's turned into a nasty vinegar like thing then at least it'll do some good cleaning the loo

ClaudiaWankleman · 17/01/2022 10:27

Down the sink, run the hot tap etc. There's no way to cook with it.

Boxies are only good for same day purchase and drinking!

MorningStarling · 17/01/2022 10:39

Pour it down the sink and flush with lots of hot water, then chuck the packaging in the bin. If it really stinks don't bother emptying it and just chuck it in the bin as is, it'll end up in landfill so the smell will be masked by the other shite there.

elelel · 17/01/2022 10:40

I was wondering the same. Can't drink it, can't cook with it - just bin it then Hmm

SiobhanSharpe · 17/01/2022 11:39

Perhaps they thought it could be used for cleaning, like white vinegar!

Monty27 · 17/01/2022 16:59

I was thinking it might be useful in the garden to ward off snails for example. Cleaning a drain possibly.
You know, I hoped I could use it as a hack of some sort.
If you think posting is a waste of time, then don't read it. Easy.
