To think blocking a device on family link should block access to everything?

We gave DD a tablet for Christmas which we had set up with Google Family Link so that it can be restricted and set. She's allowed to listen to Audible "out of hours" but that's it.

However, I can't find a way to stop her from opening the play store. While she can't download anything she's happily browsing crap apps instead of going to sleep...

Have I missed something or is this a bit of a design flaw?

When I used Family Link for my son's phone, if you set a usage restriction, the phone was totally blocked at that time each day. Are you using screen time restrictions, or restricting times of the day?

You can log into the router and set parental controls according to device and time.

You can set a bedtime, and then they can't get into it after that time.

Can’t you tell her that if she is using it for anything than listening to audible then she will lose all out of hours Internet? She could equally just mindlessly scroll “more like this” and reviews on audible.

The actual controls are a safety net, not the whole of the boundary (like you lock the front door and they shouldn’t go out, but they can actually unlock it and get out if they don’t care about your rules)

There are also various parent apps out there which block the app store.

Alternatively have a rule where the device is not used after bath time and keep the device in your room.

Doesn't the bedtime option stop any use?
It does with my teens phones.

The bedtime option doesn't honour the Audible at any time rule - and being able to listen to stories as she goes to sleep was one of things we wanted (although fair point about the scrolling @justkeep). So we use bedtime to lock it then manually unlock and lock to enable Audible.

‘Bedtime’ stops all use
