to point out that the BBC licence fee will probably not be abolished in 2027?

The 'hopes' and 'wishes' of one Minister is not the same as an agreement! Unfortunately, there is no guarantee whatsoever that the unfair licence fee will actually be going.

The Times: Nadine Dorries has said that she wants to scrap the BBC licence fee as ministers seek to take away attention from the crisis gripping Boris Johnson’s premiership. Dorries subsequently went further on Twitter and said that she wants to scrap the licence fee from 2028 and find a new funding model for the BBC.

Daily Mail: Ms Dorries indicated that she wants to put in place a new funding model for the broadcaster when the current licence fee deal expires in five years' time. Ms Dorries' tweet appeared to confirm that if the Conservatives are still in power in 2027 they will then move to replace the licence fee with a new funding model which reflects the growing domination of subscription services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Guardian: The BBC will have to negotiate with the government over an entirely new funding model when the final licence fee funding deal expires in 2027 – with potential options including a subscription service, part-privatisation, or direct government funding.

Nadine is an utter loon, I’m not paying attention to a word she says.

As you said, it’s all a distraction.

Well if we are cherry picking quotes - the start of that same Guardian article

The BBC licence fee will be abolished in 2027 and the broadcaster’s funding will be frozen for the next two years, the government has said, in an announcement that will force the broadcaster to close services and make further redundancies.

I guess we will have to wait and see. I, for one, hope it does go.

No - “The government has said” means “Nadine Dorries has tweeted something she hopes will happen” - but that’s the Gadrnaiu for you…

I’m not going to be complacent that they won’t do this. I’m really horrified by the suggestion that the licence fee goes as the way fund the BBC. What’s a better model that will ensure all the things that the BBC does to provide quality information, education and entertainment would be retained? There just isn’t one. Greater minds than Nadine Dorries’ have looked into this for years.
Subscription no, it won’t support the really expensive stuff like quality global news-gathering or services for children or the different language broadcasts or advertising free content. Obviously the BBC is not perfect, but in these days of government corruption we all need to have an institution we can rely on to tell us the truth.

It’s quite obvious why Boris Johnson’s government hate the BBC - because the BBC asks the government difficult questions. Nobody loves paying the licence fee but the value for money far far outstrips the streaming platforms, which loads of us can’t afford anyway.

How many of us here relied on CBeebies’ lack of adverts and the confident knowledge that the content was appropriate for our kids’ age group? I know I did. I rely on the BBC news for impartial news from the different parts of the UK and around the world. Other broadcasters just don’t do that to the same standards. It’s a unique global selling point of Britain, that we have the BBC.

And Nadine Dorries wants to come in and end the licence fee, so she suddenly says all that on a random Sunday afternoon out of nowhere? Anything to do with trying to distract us from all the Downing Street parties that have been going on? I honestly thought they couldn’t go any lower with showing us what contempt they hold us all in but here we are.

Nadine may not have noticed that HER Prime Minister has been lying through his arse for weeks now...

But hey, lets all stop paying for our TV licence ITV is free, remember ...

Like anyone will be able to afford it once the hike in Council tax, Gas, Electric and Water bills have been paid...oh, and National Insurance.

Keep Boris in No 10...best way of shifting the Tory Party.
