To ask about high sleeper vs mid sleeper beds??

Unashamedly posting for traffic.

My 2 boys decided they wanted to share a room a few months ago, we have a 3 bed house but i've since had a friend come to stay for a bit so they don't have the option to not share at the moment. They are currently in 2 seperate beds, DS1 is in a normal single and DS2 in a toddler bed. I want to get bunk beds to maximise space in the room and was going to order a mid sleeper but I'm not sure if they will outgrow it too soon. Whereas I think a high sleeper will last longer as they get older. Their birthdays are coming up, DS1 will be 7 and DS2 will be 4.

I'm expecting that DS1 will want to have his own room again by the time he is in secondary school so about 4 years left of sharing.

What have people in similar situations gone for?

YANBU - high sleeper
YABU - mid sleeper

How high are your ceilings?

My 13 year old still has his Kura IKEA bed which is probably the height of a mid sleeper. If he had a high sleeper he wouldn’t be able to sit up!

I don’t like high sleeper beds I don’t think they look comfortable at all

They're both good for maximising space, but the high ones are a total pain in the butt to change the bedding on, so unless your kids are going to be able to put the fitted sheet on the mattress themselves you need to choose one that you can climb up to.

We have beds by Steens. Started off as bunk beds as I had two sharing. Then when we moved I got the extension kits and made a high sleeper and a mid sleeper. The almost 16 year old is still happy in her high sleeper but the almost 10 year old decided recently that she wanted a standard bed so we reduced it back down. A bit pricey but very flexible, though I have bits of beds all over my house and garage. (DS also has a bed that can be altered)

I think 4yos a bit young to be in a high sleeper.

I actually thought it would be the other way round. Dsis slept in a mid sleeper bed until she went to uni quite happily. Where as most kids can’t even sit up in a high sleeper past about the age of 9 or 10 unless you have very high ceilings.

DS has a high sleeper with just the space underneath as the room is tiny. It's a pain in the arse to be honest. It was so high, he couldn't get in easily and has to put a foot on the windowsill. My brother had to saw the bottom of the legs off to lower it slightly. He's used to it now but its a pain to change sheets etc. I wouldn't get another one

only get one if the sleeper can change their own sheet.
it's a pita.

We have a mid sleeper bed with a toddler bed underneath (DS1 nearly 6 at the top, DS2 nearly 2 at the bottom) and tbh it's a bit of a pain as it is really tricky to read stories to DS2 and if he stands up he bangs his head.

If I had to do it again I would have ikea hacked a kura mid sleeper with DS2 on a mattress (with bed slats too) right next to the ground.
