OMG just enjoyed it so much. The kid actors were just amazing and I had a weird crush on Scar!

We were at it today in Dublin. It was so fab! Rafika was so good

lilymty · 15/01/2022 23:30

I have seen it 5 times & loved it each time. Scar is most definitely my favourite. I can't wait for my girls to be old enough to take them

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 15/01/2022 23:30

We went lucky to see it just before the first lockdown, it's amazing!
@puffyisgood where would one find cheap tickets?? I'd love to take DC after seeing it myself 10 years ago but the prices for four have always put me off!
@FusionChefGeoff , not saying they have the best prices/seats, but you could try the app todaytix.

DH was really keen to see it, I wasn’t fussed but went along with it.

Then I cried at how beautiful the start was.

ForensicFlossy · 15/01/2022 23:57

I found the opening scene incredible but the rest was an anti-climax. Definitely wouldn't see again.

united4ever · 16/01/2022 00:04

It's class. My favourite bit is when the witchcraft lady does 'he lives in you'' song. Goosebumps.

Can't get my head around how a schoolkid (9 or 10?) Can play simba of an evening at such a venue and then go to school the next day.

Dutchesss · 16/01/2022 00:07

I loved it. I would go again and again if tickets were cheaper.

united4ever · 16/01/2022 00:11

This song:

Apparently this is the best woman to sing it. Dunno which one I saw back in 2005.

puffyisgood · 16/01/2022 00:13

@puffyisgood

it's ok. there are some pretty cheap tickets knocking around ATM since the centre of London is so dead.
I'll have a look tomorrow if I remember. I very recently looked at LK prices, Fridays were admittedly cheaper than Saturdays, I should have some details tucked away somewhere.
Meandthesky · 16/01/2022 00:13

I’m going to see it this summer (2 years later than planned since it was postponed) and I’m really looking forward to it. Kind of wishing I’d splashed out on better seats to appreciate the details more but never mind

imamearcat · 16/01/2022 00:16

I LOVE that song. It's not in the original lion king movie. Just love it

@tomorrowisanother great thanks so much - just had a look and they're pretty good for short notice so might allocate a weekend then keep an eye on the prices - ready to jump on a train if we can get them!

YES! This! I took my son to the matinee on Wednesday, the lady who plays Rafiki is an incredible singer. She blew me away with he lives in you and also circle of life, I cried at both.

We had aisle seats near the front & would definitely recommend getting those if you can, was great to by close to the action though the hyenas made my son jump out of his skin!

The only negative I can possibly come up with, having recently seen Frozen which has huge, incredibly detailed set pieces and amazing special effects and lighting, is that some of the set design for the lion king seems a little old fashioned in comparison, but then it has been running 20 years & I guess set design has come a long way in that time. Frozen was just wow so also worth seeing if you can.

It's in The Lion King 2! So glad it's in the musical, it's a real highlight. Would love to take DD when she's older.

Why is this an AIBU?

gabsdot45 · 16/01/2022 08:42

It's a great show. I've seen it a few times and DD and are going to see it again next week in Dublin.

puffyisgood · 16/01/2022 08:50

yeah, I got an email from an outfit calling themselves London theatre. com, seems totally legit.

dynamitegirl · 16/01/2022 09:30

I saw it when it first opened in the West End 20 something years ago and it is one of the first shows where the whole show - the production, the costumes etc - rather than individual actor's performances have stayed with me.
I took DS last week and was worried it wouldn't live up to my memories but we were both transfixed. I'm not actually that bothered by the story or the music but I am so impressed by how cleverly it's all put together. I think the gazelles are my favourite
