What does your typical weekend look like? After a busy week of work do you have some down time or try and cram in as much as possible?

Football and washing.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 15/01/2022 20:00

It can vary really. Typical weekend, DD swimming and piano. Food shop and cleaning etc. sometimes might also see friends family. Other times more downtime.

crazyjinglist · 15/01/2022 20:06

A nice dog walk, some knitting, a bit of housework, some general hanging out with dh and the dc, some nice weekend cooking (beef stew and a crumble tonight), a board game or two, a film or couple of episodes of whatever we're currently watching. Went to the pub with our neighbours last night, but that's a rare occurrence- we don't get out much! In the less chilly months we sometimes go canoeing or wild swimming.

LovelyMoans · 15/01/2022 20:07

It's a mix. We do stuff as a family but there's always a fair amount of downtime.

Chezrone · 15/01/2022 20:10

Attempting to tire the toddler..collapsing with wine on the sofa after bedtime.

Saturday DS2 goes to swim training 6am to 8am then DS1 plays football usually about 9am kick off. Then we go food shopping, have lunch and chill for the rest of the day with some laundry thrown in.

Sunday unless there are any swimming galas (usually about 1 a month) we stay in bed as late as possible, lunch, chill with some ironing thrown in.

itsgettingweird · 15/01/2022 20:11

Downtime when we aren't doing extended family stuff or swim meets.

My ds trains 8 times a week including 6am Saturday.

So we tend to do any errands Saturday, food shop and I spend the day batch cooking and cleaning.

Sunday is more down - downtime. Wash bedding. Watch some catch up tv, board games, read, maybe a walk, bath etc.

I quite enjoy doing nothing when I can!

We are a very routine focused household so most weekends look like this -

Sat

DH lie in, I take the kids out for the morning, get a nice lunch and head home, we then do a family activity, live a 20 min train from central london so often go into the city - have Merlin passes etc.

Sun

My lie in, DH takes the kids to church in the morning, they then have a play on the way home, then brunch, do bits around the house, kids catch up with homework needed for Monday, family often then comes for Sunday roast at 3.

Evenings Sundays are chilled, films, popcorn, blankets

In the summers we often do dinner outside on a Sunday and spend more Saturday's at Thorpe park etc.

Pinchofnom · 15/01/2022 20:15

We try and use our time doing stuff; hiking, cycling, brunching, bowling, cinema, cooking classes, gymnastics. It’s pretty full on really.

We often host on weekends but I love it. Of course we have lots of weekends in where we’ll order sushi and drink red wine watching a movie (planned for this evening) but throughout the day we are never at home (unless it summer and we’re having a pool party and bbq).

MelonTits · 15/01/2022 20:17

2x adults who work full time, and one toddler:

Food shop and usually some sort of activity, walk, park/playground visit etc for DS - how much we do depends on work commitments (DH and I both work irregular Saturdays), sometimes visit friends and family and/or go further afield for activities. Occasionally I go for a long run or bike ride, or DH plays football or golf with friends.

Evenings used to be sociable until DS came along / pandemic, but we still do occasionally get together with friends or one of us goes out with a separate group.

We try and do the bulk of the cleaning during the week so that weekend cleaning is minimal - hoovering and wiping down kitchen/bathroom is all I wish to do in my precious down time!

ParkheadParadise · 15/01/2022 20:20

Saturday morning dd has kickboxing class.
DH usually goes to football
Dd and I will go shopping and out for lunch with family.
Saturday night we will meet with friends for dinner & Drinks. Dd stays with inlaws.
Sunday morning go to Mass and Cemetery.
Go out somewhere with Dd( she usually has a birthday party to attend).
Have a day in the house if the weather is shite. Sometimes we go for dinner to the local pub home and jammies on.

EileenGC · 15/01/2022 20:24

Typical weekend is a bit of a lie in (8-9am), church one morning, the odd job around the house, always work in the evenings. Sunday is almost always prep day for work the following week. We are expected to do 3-4 hours ‘self-directed prep’ each day on top of work hours and I can’t really take both weekend days off.

Before Covid, Sunday was also the most frequent travel day to wherever I had to work that next week. Now that only happens once a month or so.

SilverOtter · 15/01/2022 20:24

Pancakes, horse riding, kids parties, church and baking.

Then when they go back to school on Monday I breathe a huge sigh of relief😂

Jumpingintomenopause · 15/01/2022 20:49

Friday is my day off, gym, food shop delivery and usually coffee with friends before school pick up. Friday nights are a mix of collapse in a heap/catch up with friends or have an early night.

Saturday 8am gym class then home, shower and dressed to take DD to her activity 10.30-12noon.
Afternoons are a mix, today we met my parents for lunch. Other weekends we go to the cinema, kids parties, meet friends, play dates or just chill.
Saturday nights are either family films or socialising with friends.

Sunday morning tends to be either a long lie, coffee with a friend or brunch.
Walks, gardening, cooking etc.

CoodleMoodle · 15/01/2022 20:53

I find them difficult at the moment, mostly because of DS3! He's wonderful but I think he finds the lack of preschool a bit of a shock to his system, and can be a bit manic no matter what we do. DD7 is more chilled, but she misses the routine of school as well.

Saturdays are usually fairly screen heavy, with DD's swimming lesson in the middle, and then Sunday is homework, bath & hair washes and bed changing day. We try to get out on a Sunday but sometimes none of us want to. In the nice weather we potter around in the garden a lot, DC go on the trampoline, etc.

HalloHello · 15/01/2022 20:55

Average weekend with a 4 month old and a 4 year old - see family and friends, swimming/lessons, walks, bike rides, beach, cosy afternoons with films, soft play, cleaning, sorting etc. Not all in the same weekend but it's a mix of that. Not much rushing about though.

School holiday weekends or birthday/special occasions weekends vary obviously.

Bunce1 · 15/01/2022 20:56

Dd does ballet and I do bootcamp, DS has footy training and a game, DH has a big run.

After and in amongst the the sport we have a brunch on one of the days, walk the dog, run some errands, and one evening we will “do” something like meet friends for a meal.

timestheyarechanging · 15/01/2022 20:57

Whatever we want as kids are adults now. Mostly walking, exploring, enjoying nice restaurants and cooking.
Few Years ago it was stables every day, football twice a week, cricket for hours in summer. But now it's time for us .

That’s so positive. Looking forward to this stage (although enjoying Pre teens currently)

Work all day Saturdays. And sundays are chores and renovating our house. All very boring.
