Moving to Perth, Australia from UK

Hi everyone

My husband and myself have been thinking for a long time to move to Australia. We have two little girls and another one on the way. We are looking to move in October, a few months after the baby is born. Although both me and my husband are educated and in really good jobs , we don't qualify for any visa. My husbands mum and sister live in Melbourne but it still does not give my husband any rights. Unfortunately the only way to get there is for my husband to become an international student, luckily we have savings behind us to fund this but we really think this is the best move for us as a family. We understand that our right to work is 20 hours only , I won't be working as I will be on Mat pay.
I doubt we can buy a flat outright there for 100k (house sale) but does anyone know if an international mortgage is possible ?
Can anyone guide us what areas in Perth are suitable for a young family ? We would like to be near the beach / city / amenities but realise that this is most likely impossible.
If anyone can provide any information about Perth , we would very much appreciate it.

Many thanks

I absolutely 🤣 with laughter at the person that’s just bought a house in Clarkson …. my brother had a car there parked outside his house brothers a big lad and he has boxing gloves in the back seat of his car and some knob smashed his window to Nick the boxing gloves and then put them up for sale on gumtree, he the meets this kid to buy his gloves back and his met by some Spotty faced Scouser trying to get hundred bucks out of him 🤣
The Place is an absolute shit hole.

No Australia 90 plans to leave long-term north of Joondalup if they have to build out there it’s very much a case of a steppingstone until they can get the proper house

*Yes a childcare centre did pay for relocation costs. It isn’t unique, lots of industries do this. The costs to them would be considered a tax write off, likely why they do it. So they’re not losing money and when they desperately need staff members this is what they do. Not in whoop whoop, but on the Sunshine Coast.

I read about a month ago in the courier mail that a bar somewhere about an hour from Brisbane is offering an incentive of $100,000 for someone to come and work for him. Relocation costs for a childcare centre wouldn’t be even close to that. I can’t get why you think it’s so out there that this even happens, it has been like this for many years.*

It was a thousand dollars. Not a hundred thousand dollars.

A thousand dollars isn't comparable to the overseas relocation costs of a whole family.

I don't think it's 'out there' that this happens. I've done it myself twice.

Childcare centres are not known for their high turnovers. Even the one in Crown which is open 24/7.

I don't think you know what a tax right off is.

To believe your DH is making a good choice by becoming a brickie in a place with one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world and where temperatures can reach 40 ° ?

Hmm

@Cosmos123 miles away from fucking anywhere. Had to be driven everywhere as a teen / being reliant on my parents for lifts.

No, it is definitely $100,000. Over a five year period, outback Northern Territory. The one you’re referring to I believe is one in Qld where originally the employer offered $1000 without any applications and then the incentive was increased to $3,000. I didn’t ever suggest that $1000 or $100,000 would have been used to cover relocation costs for overseas applicants. Mainly due to the fact that while this job was advertised (a job solely done by backpackers over the last five decades) our borders were closed. The incentive was to get an Australian applicant to move there. The only point I was trying to make to the OP was that getting a cafe or hospitality job would be pretty easy at this time.

Childcare centres do have a very high turnover of staff, currently averaging at around 30%. That’s extremely high and concerning. So you’re very wrong unfortunately.

You’re correct, I don’t know what a tax right off is. Never heard of one. A tax write off, however, which is what I was referring to is an expense that is essential to running a business which can be claimed as a tax deduction. Relocation costs for new staff, when unable to recruit local candidates would be considered a deductible tax write off.

:)

Take no notice, Aussiegirl , SunshineonKeith is simply here to tell all the people living happy lives in Perth to get back in our boxes as it flares up her jealousy.

Heading back to the pool now. Wink

I would not recommend anyone moving to Perth unless you are planning on being kept here indefinitely

Sounds like you have a solid plan to start your new life with 2 little kids and a baby on the other side of the world.....

Not Confused

What an adventure! I love Perth. I don’t remember the exact area, but the homes were established, nice but didn’t seem extraordinary. Just nice. I’d live there in a minute.
They shopped nearby at a place called “Dog Swamp” which had a series of small shops, if I remember correctly.
I wish I could help more - you’ll have so much fun!
Be safe - stay well.

Australia makes so much money out of these people - basically they have an extended holiday that’s - in no way relaxing and costs them 10 times more than a year travelling around the world would have.
