Name change for this as possibly outing.

I live in a block of flats in London. Downstairs on the other side of the road is a spot where a busker has now taken up residence. It’s almost directly opposite my window!

All day he plays his accordion attached to a portable speaker system. It’s the same despondent song, over and over again. We’re talking 5 or 6 hours every day. It's loud and we hear it in every room of the flat.

I’m WFH and it’s driving me crazy. Seriously. I even hear the tune when he’s gone, ringing through my ears. It’s the first thing I think of in the morning, wondering if he’s going to appear that day and I won’t be able to get anything done. When the busker appears on a weekend like today DS8, who I guess has picked up on my distress, gets upset and cries and says make it stop!! I don’t know how to help.

I’ve asked the police to move him on and the council have been out and spoken to him. But he still comes back, several days a week. How would you handle this?

I’d keep reporting it to police on live chat and the council.

It doesn’t matter that they have your address he won’t be told it.

SuitcasesFullofBooze · 15/01/2022 16:56

Fairly sure @sadpapercourtesan. I checked with the council and they sent a Community Safety team to talk to him. I saw them do it, they had a police officer with them. Took down his details and spent 10 mins there.

2hrs later he was back.

Didn't know police had live chat @CornishTiger. Will look!

No live chat for the Met. Only 101.

There's an online form you can complete instead and they get back to you within 48 hours if you select the buttons that say 'something else' and press the relevant answers

You need to give your address and details of yourself though.

Most people’s responses are much more professional than mine!! I’d go down with a tenner, explain to him you love his song but can hear his music right through your flat, and ask him if he’d mind moving a bit down the road to give you a bit of peace. Promise him another tenner tomorrow if he sets up down the road. And then if he does it randomly tip him occasionally after that.

Can you just put fake ones in?
SeaToSki · 15/01/2022 17:09

So put your name and address and do a typo of your flat number. You can always say it was autocorrect. If your phone number is correct the Police will be able to call you.

SuitcasesFullofBooze · 15/01/2022 17:13

I tried @girlmom21 They want your name, dob, address. It's a lot to give.

I'm trying to find an email now for the police station.

The busker is still playing. It's pitch black out there.

You're assuming OP can afford to give him a tenner twice in a row and randomly tip him occasionally after that. Has he then become OP's responsibility? What happens if she stops (assuming she can afford to do so, to start with)?

A long range water pistol?

MorningNinja · 15/01/2022 17:22

Put your own details in OP - why would you not? I'd want to create a paper trail because this shows the extent of the issue for you.

The more you report it, the more it becomes an issue to the council and the police and forces them to take it more seriously.

SuitcasesFullofBooze · 15/01/2022 17:28

I'm worried he might be part of a gang @MorningNinja. Don't want to get me or DS hurt.

OP posts:
Staffy1 · 15/01/2022 17:30

Report to police and council every day.

Staffy1 · 15/01/2022 17:31

Even if part of a gang, he wouldn’t be given your name or address.

MorningNinja · 15/01/2022 17:32

The police won't tell them where you live. Plus you live in a block of flats so as far as they are concerned it could be anyone.

Iamthedom · 15/01/2022 17:32

Well I would probably throw bucket of water over him but I’m not very nice 😂

SuitcasesFullofBooze · 15/01/2022 17:33

Still makes me very nervous @Staffy1. Would rather go down to local police station.

OP posts:
SuitcasesFullofBooze · 15/01/2022 17:34

Tempting! @Iamthedom

OP posts:
CornishTiger · 15/01/2022 17:34

Without you giving details then it’s so easy for the police and council not to do their jobs and use the powers they have!

1967buglet · 15/01/2022 17:37

Have you tried Environmental Health and reported a noise nuisance?

Staffy1 · 15/01/2022 17:41

Then make anonymous reports to the police by phone every time he is back.

SuitcasesFullofBooze · 15/01/2022 17:42

I hear you @CornishTiger
@Staffy1 Is that 101?
