My household was hit with covid a week ago. I got it first and tested positive last Saturday.
My 2 year old DD was next on Tuesday with a positive test.
I kept my DS off school last week as I didn't want to be responsible for an outbreak in the class (what with them being infectious 48 hours before symptoms/testing positive), which actually proved pointless as they have had 15 positive cases over the last week, none of which we were responsible for as my DS and DH is still testing negative.
So with this in mind, and my son still testing negative, I will send him back to Monday. Problem is, I have no idea how to get him there with my DD being positive. DH works and can't help as there's no time now to arrange time off/to go in late.
We literally live 500m from the school, the drop off is at an external door to the playground and we leave. There are no covered over spaces or closed in areas either.
I obviously can't have someone come and sit with DD because she's positive and I can't take her out.
I don't drive either, so can't even drive round to the school, as silly as that is because it's literally 500m!
I've messaged a few mums but most of their kids go to breakfast club or their kids are now off isolating as they are also positive.

So, awesome Mumsnet brains, is there anything I haven't thought of, or WIBU to just take her in the buggy on the school run?

How old is he?

FinallyMrsE · 15/01/2022 15:08

Speak to school they may have someone passing that can help. I know ours will do all they can to get children in under these kind of circumstances.

HansSolo22 · 15/01/2022 15:10

Our school arranges for you to come in & pick up early or late. Could you email them so they pick it up first thing Monday morning and say he'll be in late so you can avoid the school run crowds?

BoatisBoatShirley · 15/01/2022 15:10

Call school, they might be able to send someone to collect him, or they might be ok with him having an extra day off.

curlii103 · 15/01/2022 15:11

If she tested positive last tues id take her in a buggy. With a raincover if it makes you feel better!

Newmumatlast · 15/01/2022 15:13

Test with lateral flows. If you're still positive, and cannot get anyone to take him, don't go. Its unreasonable to risk infecting other people imo knowing you're positive.

WaystarRoycoCEO · 15/01/2022 15:15

I’d just take her in the buggy maybe with the raincover over it.

RedCandyApple · 15/01/2022 15:21

When this happened to my kids and only one needed to isolate school told me to keep all kids off, no one offered to collect them, and I don’t drive either so couldn’t take them in car

DoNotGetADog · 15/01/2022 15:26

Isn’t it only 5 days isolation from Monday anyway?

So do a LFT tomorrow and Monday morning (or today and tomorrow as they’re days 5&6. If they’re negative she’s fine to go on Monday anyway.

Thank you! I'll give them a call on Monday and see what they suggest

I should be negative by Monday, it's not me it's my daughter. She will only be day 5 Monday and chances are she will be positive still.

@WaystarRoycoCEO

I’d just take her in the buggy maybe with the raincover over it.
I did wonder if this might be a good plan, as she'd be sealed in.

Our school arrange for drop off at the main door rather than classroom entrances if you are isolating but need to come out just for the school run. I’d hazard a guess all schools have some sort of alternative plan in place so you just need to contact them to find out what it is.

Thanks! I'll give them a ring on Monday morning and find out what their protocol is for this.

Worries over, he tested positive this morning, so won't be going to school anyway ☹️
