To think we don't need to wait for Sue Gray's report

Confused We know there were all these parties because people have coughed to them, even the PM. Sue Gray's report is neither here nor there.

A PM happy to live within the ' Gray ' areas of these covid restrictions and what was acceptable back then ( ie, 'acceptable rule breaking ' for them anyway :(
A top civil servant being a woman has surprised me though , but I'm guessing she'll just tow the party line and get the tin of whitewash out.

Poetrypatty · 15/01/2022 09:33

There is still a lot of support amongst his party though , one was on lbc just now , 26 have backed him , several people I know just say it's a ' witch hunt '

It's hard to see how people are defending him, especially when you think of how annoyed we all were about Barnard Castle, and even just one of these parties was around that time and worse. I reckon Tory MPs on the whole will be getting a lot of letters from constituents over the weekend and so the mood will harden against him next week. I don't even believe his isolation story, which conveniently came the day after PMQs. He's just hiding.

@3scape

The police are dragging their feet aren't they. The parties happened. That means a criminal investigation could go ahead, and circumvent the unlikehood of Boris letting the facts get out ....seizing documents etc should have happened way back. Except as the police have turned their usual blind eye magically no diary entry will be found. Pictures will seemingly evaporate and no receipts were ever claimed.
The police will do nothing. They are not capable of mounting such investigations with the current leadership at the Met being as compromised as it is.

The fact that they were quite happy to give a woman a £12k fine on the same day as one of these parties at Downing Street for holding a birthday party for 30 people just highlights their hypocrisy. Whilst I clearly don't agree with such selfish behaviour as having parties in lockdowns, the heavy handed and inconsistent response of the police during lockdowns is well known. We had police claiming that a cup of coffee on a walk was a picnic and using that to threaten women, walkers on deserted trails being harassed by police drones and of course protests about the murder of an innocent woman by one of their own being subject to a level of police violence that seemed in very sharp contrast to the soft-touch approach adopted at any of the anti-lockdown/anti-vax protests.

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2022 09:40

It might be hard to believe on here but I know many people who back him up or say it's all been blown out of proportion.

Fizbosshoes · 15/01/2022 09:40

I'm pretty sure Sue Gray used to be a music teacher at my primary school...

misses point of thread

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2022 09:41

50 shades of Gray indeed , once this report / inquiry comes out it certainly will be.

StoneofDestiny · 15/01/2022 09:46

If there was ever a case of the Tories hiding behind a woman's skirt, this is it!
Her report is a ridiculous absurdity. The parties took place - end of.
Worst thing is the police waiting on the report before taking action - the police are being made to look like corrupt government stooges.

Poetrypatty · 15/01/2022 09:46

Maybe she's warming up her violin so she can play it for the PM

Ok, senior circle servant, expectation of nice Independent-linked pension and a gong of some sort when she retires in the not too distant future.

Going to find against her boss - don't think so!

BorsetshireBanality · 15/01/2022 09:50

index linked!

Hortensia16 · 15/01/2022 10:11

Martin Reynolds should already have resigned or been sacked. The fact that he's still in post shows what a sham it all is.

thereisonlyoneofme · 15/01/2022 10:43

I wonder how long the work breaks are between parties !

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2022 10:47

Some of these people slept off the hangovers in their offices ( mail today )

PermanentTemporary · 15/01/2022 10:56

Women in the Civil Service article There are quite a lot of senior female civil servants these days.

Still vulnerable to rumours whether true or false of affairs with the Prime Shagister and therefore being considered unsuitable for further promotion. It would be nice if future PMs weren't so revoltingly and unthinkingly promiscuous.

Poetrypatty · 15/01/2022 11:53

Seems quite possible the PM will make a big show of sacking him after the Sue Gray report, and then say he's dealt with it and we should move on.

The most annoying thing to me is that quite enough people still think Boris is a cheeky chappie who is doing his best, it's better to have a "fun" PM than some boring old fart who actually knows what they're doing, that he'd get voted in again in a twinkling. The party know that. It's why he's unlikely to go until he actually wants to.

On a side note, it's pretty depressing that so few of the Great British Public know anything at all about the political system they live under. I heard from a very reliable source about more than one voter at the last election asking why Boris wasn't on the list as they wanted to vote for him. "Because this is not his constituency." "What's that then?" Hmm

UnconditionalSurrender · 15/01/2022 12:12

He's done for and only he and the Tory party caught in his narcissistic bubble can't see that. No matter what Sue Grey says the outrage from the public will just accelerate. As far a I'm concerned the longer he clings on and the more Tory MPs who back him the worse it will be in the long run for the Tory party- which is great.

Poetrypatty · 15/01/2022 12:14

There was a woman on the news yesterday who said she'd never voted but she liked Boris because he's 'down to earth.' Hmm

He's behind in the polls now though so the knives will be out soon.

Colourmeclear · 15/01/2022 12:15

There will be 20+ parties revealed but Boris was only at one accidentally so it's nothing to do with him, even though I would have set the tone on day one of lockdown and said anyone doing anything outside the letter and spirit of the law will be sacked because my job depended on it, but then he's not keen on responsibility...

Poetrypatty · 15/01/2022 12:16

I agree UnconditionalSurrender I think the public will be annoyed by this silly nonsense of being told we've got to wait for the Sue Gray report. So it doesn't really matter what the report says.

Far too many can't tell the difference between "down to earth" and "in the gutter".
LovelyMoans · 15/01/2022 12:26

Yanbu
Has anyone started a petition to ditch BJ yet? Enough is enough.

MatildaTheCat · 15/01/2022 12:32

Hopefully Sue Gray will be the new Jackie Weaver and throw the lot of them out.

If only.

Poetrypatty · 15/01/2022 12:36

I'd have a lot more faith if they'd got Jackie in! Maybe we should start a petition for that.

On a forum where there are apparenty so many female high earners, why is it a surprise that there are high level female civil servants.

Sue Gray has been given an impossible job, I hope this doesn't turn into a Sue Gray bashing thread. Her pension is irrelevant to this.
