To wonder about giving up career?

I’d be very interested to hear about any experiences of giving up relatively “high flying”, City-job, professional services type roles to be a SAHP.

Repeatedly hit by the realisation of how much easier life would be if I did - nursery runs/ school runs, no need to pay for all the childcare, time to cook more, sort out house renovations, see ny DC, spend more time on my small side-business…

But would I miss the adrenaline of client-facing work and the pressure? (And the money?) Anyone done it and loved it? Or regretted it?

Thanks for all the replies. I think sadly you’re (mostly) saying what I know in my heart, namely, it’s about playing the long game, keeping one’s hand in, etc. I’m not concerned about divorcing (famous last words!) and we have the relevant health/life insurances, but I certainly take the point about not knowing what’s around the corner.

I do have various opportunities through my role to have slightly more sensible hours, which helps. I work in deals like a pp so it’s quite up and down in terms of intensity, which I try to use to my advantage in between projects.

To answer one question, the side business has the capacity to be a full-time activity but it’s in a very different sector which has a number of difficult-but-boring challenges (from my perspective) relative to my job now, which has intellectual-but-ultimately-don’t-matter challenges. I prefer the latter!

Food for thought, but ultimately I think this cements my view that I just need to keep on keeping on…
