to expect complete strangers to not abandon their car outside my house since Xmas eve?

This is beginning to drive me sightly mad, there has been a car parked outside our house since Xmas Eve. Abandoned by people who go to the pub at the rear of our house, this happens frequently on a Friday and Saturday night but am I being unreasonable to expect them to have a bit of respect and courtesy over Xmas and allow my visitors to be able to park outside our house?

We do have a very small bit of grass outside our front window and there's loads of parking just down the road so it's not as if there's absolutely nowhere to park at all.

i asked zippi to move her car when she came to see me lol

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 26/12/2007 19:29

ah but i did ask you if it was ok..im not a total arse

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 26/12/2007 19:30

tho i was more concerned about my car getting broken than anything else lol

lou33 · 26/12/2007 19:31

lol broken into round here would be front page news

i was worried where you left it had made it hard for cars to weave through, so you would have got it scraped

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 26/12/2007 19:33

yep broken=hit

theexmrsbarryscott · 26/12/2007 19:38

Loving the banana comment - must keep a stash for this very purpose by the front door

lou33 · 26/12/2007 19:44

oh

read it as broken into

sorry

nametaken · 26/12/2007 20:01

theexmrsbarryscott I know exactly what you mean about people having the whole road and parking right near your house.

Why oh why oh why, when you park in a completly deserted section right at the back of the supermarket carpark, do you come back to your car to find someone else parked so close to you that you can barely open your car door!!!!!!!!!!

foxinsocks · 26/12/2007 20:02

because they line up using your car

honestly, you are all farking parking bonkers and need some chill pills

theexmrsbarryscott · 26/12/2007 20:05

NKF - I know it's nothing to do with respecting me personally but surely it's just common sense that if you drive up a quiet road and there's tonnes of parking available, why would you choose to park right under somebody's window. I know I wouldn't do it, it really is just plain simple surely.

theexmrsbarryscott · 26/12/2007 20:06

foxinsocks - yea too right, have you got any you can send me (chill pills that is)

I'm curious about the sort of neighbourhood you might live in thgough. This my space, parking business is such a different mindset to mine that I can't relate to it. Is this a suburban obsession? Or something to do with cul de sacs? I literally have never had such a thought in my life and, in real life, have never heard such thoughts voiced. Yet on MN, dozens of people will agree with you. I'm intrigued by it.

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 26/12/2007 20:10

think it must be a suburban thing

southeastastra · 26/12/2007 20:11

if my parking space is taken i go mental.

NKF · 26/12/2007 20:13

SEA - what sort of road do you live in?

theexmrsbarryscott · 26/12/2007 20:13

I guess it is just the different neighbourhoods we live in NKF, maybe if you were to live here you would be able to see my point of view. Dont's get me wrong I'm not twitching at the curtains to see who's parking outside my window but when someone abandons their car for days on end over Xmas surely that's out of order?

I promise you MrsBS that they are not thinking about how they can piss you off

Round here - we are v near the station and have no resident's parking so ANYONE can park round here.

We get people parking for Heathrow who park for weeks, people who park for the station who park every day, people who own the shops on the High St who park all day during working hours.....we NEVER get to park outside our own house. Tis just the way!

You see the problem is, you are spoilt for parking but people who have my mindset would not even think twice about parking outside someone's house because we do it all the time because we go for any parking available NO MATTER WHERE IT IS.

I PROMISE you, they are not deliberately trying to upset you!

But if I parked outside your house, I would be delighted for you to come out and berate me .

NKF · 26/12/2007 20:16

What sort of neighbourhood is it? Go on, just broad strokes. I don't want to know your postcode or anything. I'm just curious. I wouldn't notice a new car outside my house. Unless it was a pink stretch limo or something really outrageous. And even then I'd just think "oh look a pink stretch limo". I wouldn't wonder who owned it or when it was going away again.

southeastastra · 26/12/2007 20:17

i live in a 'cul de sac' lol

theexmrsbarryscott · 26/12/2007 20:22

foxinsocks - I understand where you're coming from totally and if I lived where you live would expect parking problems and grab any available space, the same as anyone else. It's really not the issue with us here that there isn't enough space - there's loads - so why park half on the footpath right outside my window?

NKF - I live in a town in Worcestershire which is fairly quiet, like I said there's 2 houses around a green, at the side of our house is a pathway to a small, quiet pub which is behind our house. There's always car's parked outside our house on a Friday & Saturday night which I don't mind as long as they don't wake my dd up when they return & don't want long-stay parking.

OP posts:
theexmrsbarryscott · 26/12/2007 20:22

It is a 'cul de sac' type road too.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 26/12/2007 20:25

but people may not know that. They may think your space is just handy and plop their car in it innit.

Probably because they think that outside someone's house, their car will have someone keeping an eye on it!

You see, if there's a wealth of parking, it doesn't really matter for your guests, does it? Because they'll still be able to park?

(am really too pissed to get into this but do admire your persistence)

theexmrsbarryscott · 26/12/2007 20:31

bloody cheeky sods if they think i'm gonna keep an eye on their car, get the banana's out more bloody likely.

i'm off to get a huge glass of wine but dont worry, will be back tomorrow to let you know if i've 'berated' anyone (quite a funny sight after a few glasses of vino i imagine)

NKF - care to partake in a very large one?

OP posts:
Tortington · 26/12/2007 20:34

yeah if its a public road tough shit - unless you have dropped kerb which i guess youhaven't

you should deffo deflate tyres

NKF · 26/12/2007 20:46

Even if you have a dropped kerb, I don't think you can insist that the public road is your space. It's just most people think they have to observe it.
