Notice period at work

I have a new job (hurraaaaaaaaayyyyyy)!

I have not been happy in my current role for a long time and I'm so happy to be moving on.

Anyway, I technically only have to give one week's notice. This would be great as I could start at the new place ASAP and also I'd get to leave current job. But I'm going to offer to stay on an extra week I think? I still feel slightly guilty as even two weeks might be difficult to find a replacement. Or maybe not.

AIBU to only give two weeks or maybe even one weeks notice as I am technically allowed to?

Fwiw I'm a part time waitress - nothing high flying or business critical in that there are lots of us doing the same job and it isn't rocket science. But at the same time I do not want to leave them in the proverbial shit.

If your contract says one week’s notice, that’s what I would give them. I had a contract that said one month and my boss was horrified when I handed in my notice. He said I couldn’t possibly be replaced in that time, what would they do without me etc. I pointed out that he had chosen not to appoint me on the better terms which required 3 months. If they wanted to cut down staff they would only give you one week. Hand in your notice and go. Don’t be ‘A Ragged Trousered Philanthropist’.

Stick to your contract notice period.

If they were a nice company you wouldn't be leaving.

Ragged trousers philanthropist 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Omg I love that. Hospitality is full of that. Low paid, hard working people feeling guilty if they don't do everything perfectly, all to line the pockets of a very rich man who sits on his arse all day.

I don't feel bad for management, but I would feel bad if it added pressure for the other ragged trousered ones is all. But maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily
